FA Cup 1st Round

by Sutekh » 08 Oct 2023 21:26

This next weekend (14 October) sees the FA Cup 4th Round Qualifying completed. This, in turn, means that the draw for the oldest football competition in the world that's still being contested will be made over the same weekend (I can't find anywhere that confirms when the draw will be made or even if it's broadcast live somewhere, usually most round's draws are held on the Monday following the weekend's ties but it seems no-one cares about the 1st Round Proper!). If anyone knows when the draw is going to be made and whether it'll be televised anywhere let us all know!

Ties will be played on the weekend of 3/4/5/6 November. The first round was not regionalised last year so Reading could get any one of the 79 other clubs that will be involved and I think Reading's ball will be number 37.

The full draw for the FA Cup 4th Round Qualifying is:

All 3pm kick offs unless otherwise stated (berkshire teams in bold)

Scarborough Athletic v Oxford City
Altrincham v Oldham Athletic AFC
FC Halifax Town v Marine
Worksop Town v Boston United
AFC Fylde v Leek Town
Hereford v Rochdale AFC
York City v Needham Market
Solihull Moors v Biggleswade Town
Chesterfield v Kettering Town
Alfreton Town v Macclesfield
Hartlepool United v Chester
Chelmsford City v Whitby Town
Curzon Ashton v Tamworth
Kidderminster Harriers v Ashton United
Stourbridge v Gateshead
Aldershot Town v Lewes
Torquay United v Maidstone United
AFC Totton v Ramsgate
Aveley v Barnet
Hemel Hempstead Town v Woking
Horsham v Dorking Wanderers
Eastleigh v Dover Athletic
Yeovil Town v Southend United
Bromley v Wealdstone
Weston Super Mare v Maidenhead United
Braintree Town v Chesham United
Bracknell Town v Dagenham & Redbridge (12.30pm kick off as is LIVE on BBC red button)
Worthing v Bath City
Boreham Wood v Welling United
Cray Valley Paper Mills v Enfield Town
Ebbsfleet United v Slough Town
Billericay Town v Sheppey United

Reading's last foray into the first round was a dull 1-0 home win v Welling United back in November 2001. Cue discussion about which cr@p tie Reading will get

1st round has been televised in recent years. Last year it was at Alvechurch, on BBC2.

Something fishy going on if we end up being drawn against Marine after this post.

Just a week or so until we know which tier 4, 5, 6 or 7 club will embarrass the mighty 'ding in round 1.

I mean, we can all see this team being bullied by a 7th tier side, can't we?

The dream is Bracknell Town vs Reading.

The reality is Burton Albion at home.

A lot of them will have played against teams from those tiers in the Berks and Bucks and done well. Although obviously "the magic of the Cup" is a bit different for smaller teams than a regional cup competition.

If we were to draw FC Halifax Town away, that would be an ideal draw for me.

No thanks, they'd beat us and we'd have to live with the stigma for years

It's been so long that all of the squaddies have moved out. Might have to have your fun with the local Nepalese instead.

At least it won't be Man Utd away I suppose.

Would it be as embarrassing when compared to the last time we played a non-league side?
