If England get past Uzbekistan they then face the winners of France v Senegal in the QFs next Saturday (25th) morning and the winners of that game will get one of Mali, Iran, Morocco or Mexico in the semis on 28th November.

Sutekh Well that was a dreary less than convincing pile of poo against 171st ranked Malta.

I’ve been a long time supporter of Henderson, but time’s up
The speed of movement was just appalling and simply upping the tempo would easily have been enough for a more convincing win

Lucky Southgate was there to remedy that as soon as it was apparent.

Obviously if the cnut wasn't in charge, we'd have definitely beaten Malta 7-0 and won both home and away against Italy in the last six months.

Something I just spotted, that I had missed, is that since March, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been working as a coach with the England side.

I like Jimmy, see him quite a lot on Super Sunday or Monday night football. Seems like a positive character.

Jimmy basically replaced Chris Powell. Who's now assistant manager at Sheffield Wednesday.

Dion Dublin just made a complete fool of himself with that penalty decision. "Nothing there. Just jumped up. Hand in his face but it is a contact sport. What is he supposed to do?"

Whilst my view is that shouldn't be a penalty, I've seen enough games since the 80s (!) to know that gets given, sometimes

Poor effort Dion

That's not unusual.

They should have had a penalty for Maguire bundling over a player not the Lewis one. We've been dreadful. Saka always cuts back on his left foot to try and get to the corner of the box to shoot. Grealish always slows down play so defenders get back into position and then passes backwards. It's just too predictable to defend against.

If this was a meaningful game, we'd be livid with the refereeing.

The ref has been atrocious, but the commentary has been worse.

I’m not sure what worse - Dion Dublin’s constant drivel, the referee, or Rashford’s cameo.

I quite like Dublin’s puppy- like enthusiasm.

But let’s face it, there are very few enjoyable, knowledgeable and eloquent pundits in football.

Dion is biased and blindly optimistic about every situation. Great entertainment, like watching alongside your clueless mate at the pub.

He both praises and criticises at the wrong time which is some achievement.

And he speaks more than the actual commentator.

Stick him in the jungle and after 24 hours the campmates would be screaming “FTLOG IACGMOOH!!”

One particular Rashford effort of note
Receives the ball tight to the left hand touchline ….. and turns left

A poor week, but it is what it is. We are only a few weeks removed from beating Italy. Again.

Guehi was excellent. I've only seen clips of Bobby Moore, but there is something very Moore-like about the way he moves with the ball. Glides, almost as if there is no-one else on the pitch.

Not much else to say. Just five shots on target in 180 minutes against two poor sides is a bit weird. Equally North Macedonia also got a draw with Italy, and Ukraine came back from two goals down. Maybe they are just decent at home.

We move on. Will be one of the top seeds for the group stage draw, which is on 2nd December. Italy, Netherlands and Serbia will be waiting in pots 3 or 4 ready to be part of a 'group of death'.
