I did wonder under what circumstances they thought they could sue a person who was only ever under investigation and never actually charged with anything - assuming Player X is who we believe it to be.

Bringing the club into disrepute?Given I don't think he was ever officially named that would also be a challenge.

Surely the correct course of action would be to sack him for breach of contract. If he was guilty, his transfer value would be zero.

Not sure how you can sue someone for not being guilty of anything illegal otherwise fans would make up all sorts of shit about underperforming players.

As if on cue........................ Manchester City stopped paying Benjamin Mendy his £100,000 a week wages when he was accused of various serious sexual offences in September 2021. He then goes and gets found not guilty.....and is now suing Manchester City for the loss of those wages plus other associated bonuses and costs.

Unless it is written into a players contract that a club can do this, it is a very dodgy HR minefield that these clubs will be wading into.

In fairness I didn't make it clear but I meant if found guilty, but whilst the investigation is ongoing, his transfer value is effectively zero. A situation like the one at Everton, unfortunately they just have to suck it up.

Tax due today.

If its late again we're likely looking at a points deduction.

And this is the damage of Dai’s 4D chess. Every month HMRC due dates and pay days come around creates uncertainty, the possibility of more points deductions and ultimately takes away from the value of his asset. It's why he really needs to hurry up and accept the best offer.

Presumably if one party had exclusivity and were advanced with due diligence, they could loan the amount for today. So if it's unpaid it probably means he's still procrastinating.

I didn't think there was any precedent for a points deduction related to this offence. It's just a transfer embargo historically.

Unless they want to make an example of us again.

Don't really care any more, there's no real point until new owners arrive and something positive happening, without it being immediately destroyed by the failures within the current regime, becomes a possibility.

There isn't, but we're already up before the Independent Commission for this and given how many times we've been late they may well create a precedent, particularly if we're behind again when it meets. It could also be claimed we are gaining an unfair advantage on other clubs.

I'm no lawyer, but I would direct them to the league table in that scenario.

Our three wins have all come against teams with something to play for though.

More investigative journalism on 777 partners and their Everton takeover. Apparently Genoa, who they also own, are at risk of bankruptcy if they can't restructure their debt. Presumably the Puscas fee is in instalments, and it would be a real blow financially. Hopefully it doesn't come to pass; clubs normally find a way out of these things.

777 sound like a bunch of shysters. They got involved a British basketball too, and it's been a similar story of promises of money not materialising.

I would assume that when signing a player or renewing a contract, they ask the player various due diligence questions such as "Do you know of any reason you're likely to be arrested/sued/imprisoned etc in the duration of this contract?"

Clearly not in this case, but in a case where it could be proved that the player lied to them they could have decent grounds for being released from their legal obligations. Potentially, they also ask similar questions to a selling club.

If they don't, they should.

Well 3 working days on from when the tax was due still no change to our embargo status, hopefully a good sign

And EFL are supposed to make a judgement on Dai`s case by the end of the month (Thursday)

Mr Angry Re: the Everton points deduction.

The Everton accountants drew up a list of pretty spurious mitigations against the losses to try to persuade the Premier League that Everton had not breached PSR rules.

One of those concerned "Player X", who they were unable to play or sell for 2 Years due to an "unforeseeable and extraordinary circumstance". As well as saying that they could have got £20M in any sale of "Player X", they also calculated that they should be credited for another £10M for not suing him!

Why they thought this would be accepted in mitigation is beyond me, but there you go.
There's a good episode of The Price of Football podcast which goes onto the Everton case.

Also worth noting that Aston Villa would be on the receiving end of similar charges had they not sold Jack Grealish for £100m, I guess they would have been screwed too if he'd been involved with the same "unforeseeable and extraordinary circumstance" as player X.

A warning for clubs who have a business model which assumes the sale of players at a profit later down the line.

6 points from 2 games then you read on Twitter what Selles said to Tim Dellor and realise those points could be taken away again in the blink of an eye:

Dom Ballard out for the rest of the season. @ReadingFC manager confident team is on the rise going into December. Unsure whether they will be paid at the end of the month.
