There's a Donny team back the 50s who got 105pts (adjusted to 3pts for a win) in 42 games. 33 wins, 6 draws.

Clyde1998 IIRC, Lincoln would've got 105 points under three points for a win.

From FCHD.INFO - 8)

75-76 season :'Imps' got 32 wins and 10 draws ...we finished 3rd that season and went up behind 'Norfampton', whom we accompanied back down to D4 (alongside Grimsby & York) the following term!

....and 'Donny' achieved the equivalent of 105 Pts ..... in 46-47 .... first post-WW2 season...... and also came straight back down the next season.

That's the one I'm thinking of but Donny achieved it in 4 fewer games.

Good point - missed that bit :P

...but then that season, wouldn't some lower level teams still include returning/recuperating 'Pros' from higher levels than was the norm ?
Perhaps the 'guesting' practice that occurred around that time, had finished by the start of 46-47? :?

(Look up 'Clarrie Jordan' for more detail of the scoring exploits and Donny's record that season)

Bit difficult to find too much about most of their squad but of the ones who do have Wikipedia pages, Doncaster was the pinnacle of their career to that point. Don't think they had any ringers in their team. A fair proportion of them seemed to be ex miners so probably hard as nails and fit as fcuk.

Clarrie Jordan went on to greater things (Division 2) but that's about it.

Because we hold the record outright.
My specific question was whether if two sides achieved 106 would the side with the better goal difference be considered the record holder ?
I assume you aren’t a stats man.

big fan of the asterisk for Lincoln City's efforts under 2 points for a win, I assume.

IIRC, Lincoln would've got 105 points under three points for a win.

Ironically, they would’ve got 106
32 wins, 4 defeats, 10 draws

If we're talking about the Donny and Lincoln seasons callung the record into question, we may as well concede it given some of the PL points tallies on 38 games, that would easily eclipsed 106 if they played 46 games.

Worked out what I'd remembered. We would've got 75 points under two points for a win, compared to 74 for Lincoln:

Reading - Pld 46 - W 31 - D 13 - L 2 - Pt3 106 - Pt2 75
Lincoln - Pld 46 - W 32 - D 10 - L 4 - Pt3 106 - Pt2 74

As you say, both would've got 106 points under three points for a win.

We could concede it to non-league clubs too - AFC Wimbledon got 130 points one season (Won 42; Drawn 4) in their early years. They also came third the previous season on 111 points!

You cannot count any team who played under 2 points for a win as the dynamic is quite different, with a draw being a point gained rather than two dropped and therefore sides may or may not have been having various things to play for at various stages of the season etc.

Technically any record should be a ppg ratio to take into account the numbers of games all clubs play in a season in which case Reading would probably struggle to get in the top 5 best league records.

But 106 under 3 points is the greatest achievement by any FL team over the course of a season and quite simply demonstrates the best ever league side despite what Don Goodman says. Party when Leicester finally cock it up?

Ipswich dropping points means that they, like Leeds, can now only match 106.

Sadly, yes, Ipswich scored a last minute winner so it they can still reach 108. I guess I was looking at latest scores not as I thought final scores

We're nearly there. Leicester need to win at least eight of their remaining ten games. Seven wins and they can only reach a max 105 points.

Sunderland should have had a last minute pen, bloke was dragged back by the shoulder, Sidwell was doing the game on sky, said Leicester were poor in the 2nd half.

Spare a thought for AFC Totton. In 2010 they got a PPG equivalent of 109 in the Southern League and had to settle for the playoffs. Which they lost.

Note that previously these clubs got fined and did not receive points deductions.

Ipswich were leading away at Cardiff as they went into injury time; Cardiff then scored in the 95th and 100th minutes and so Ipswich can now only amass 105 points.

Another one bites the dust.
