Ex-adversary now on tour, who'd go and watch his "show" if it rocked up at the Hexagon?

I’d certainly go if he came to Crawley’s Hawth Theatre. Always fascinating to hear controversial figures look back over their lives - saw John Lydon a couple of years ago and in a relaxed environment, he was totally different from his expected persona.

Orion1871 Sunderland announce Charlie Hurley has passed away.

This is very sad news.

Reading have now also announced it.

https://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/2024/a ... 1936-2024/

I trust Reading will organise a minute's silence for Charlie on Saturday, after all he "found" Robin and brought the club its first promotion in 50 years.

About 20 years ago I did suggest to BBC Berks that they should look to arrange an interview with him. Shame that never happened as I'm sure he could have added a bit more colour to his time at the club.

BBC reporting that any bids for Olise and Eze start at £60m with the next paragraph of interest.

Neither contract contains a straightforward release clause and any deal will be complex with percentages due to the player's former club, the players themselves and Crystal Palace.

Yep saw that

My guess fwiw (nothing) is that there probably is a clause of sorts in there. Just maybe not as high as we’d hope - maybe 5% or something

Don’t think Palace get enough credit really. They’ve picked up 3 superb champ players for not a huge amount. As said in the article, they are a completely different side when Olise and Eze play, and Wharton looks excellent

Pretty sure Bowen is on record saying we don't have an Olise sell on clause. Don't you get solidarity payments by default though, at 1% or so? If he goes for £80m, would still be a handy amount at this level. But just imagine if we had agreed 20% or so.

P.s., Wharton looks like a player. Alongside Mainoo and Alex Scott, possible solution to England's perennial 3rd CM problem.

A pretty good last 3 games for them.

Great to see the praise in the media for Olise who we all knew would make it but, just because he played for The Fakes, there were some on here who thought that Eze wasn't all that.

Remember when some of us said Ejaria was better than Eze? But bias aside, Olise genuinely is.

I think that opinion was based on Eze having a couple not so stellar games against us.

If we do have an Olise sell on clause, could it complicate the takeover? If Dai's representatives tell him there's a potential windfall coming this summer, he may want to amend the terms of any sale to ensure he gets his share.

There is no evidence we do, direct evidence we don’t.
If we do then it won’t be a surprise to Dai, NH or the purchasers and will be part of the sales negotiation and valuation. It’s not a sudden new thing that’s cropped up.

It seems very much like there'll have been no sell on fee negotiated in the sale, as per Bowen public statement (although these aren't exactly always honest/correct), but because he joined us as a teen and spent time in the Academy, we'd be due a slice of any fee for having helped develop him. With Chelsea and City getting a slice of that too.

It's unlikely to be very big even if he was to go for a very big amount, because he wasn’t here very long. I guess it might hit 7 figures, but my complete stab in the dark would be a very welcome few hundred k.

If Olise moves before the end of the season of his 23rd birthday then we will be due 4 years worth of training compensation - this would be about 360k.

We would also, I believe, be due a solidarity payment. 5% of the transfer fee is withheld and allocated to clubs who trained the player up to the age of 12-22 and varies on the length of time there.

So if Olise goes for the 60m that some press are quoting - then 5% of that is 3m that would be split across the following clubs - Chelsea (4 years), Man City (1 year) Reading (4 years). So Chelsea and us would both be due around 1.33m GBP. With City getting around 300k.

Of course, we may have a sell on fee and Bowen could have been wrong/lying.

Despite what has allegedly been said by others before - i struggle to believe there is no sell on fee. That would be literally outrageous and a terrible piece of business. I would have to move on from Antonio in terms of worst ever transfer / contract scenario!!

Because Olise went on a release clause that would suggest to me that it's very unlikely he has a sell-on clause. Unless someone had the sense to inject a sell-on clause requirement into his release clause?

More likely the clause just stated that Reading Football Club were required to accept any bid for at least £8.3m. At which point no club is going to voluntarily accept a sell-on clause.

Even if we did have such a clause i'm 99% certain we would have agreed a financial deal to remove it during this season.

If he's got a minimum fee clause, I can't see why there would be a sell on clause.

Perhaps the release clause required a sell on %?

Why would you struggle to believe it?

The contract was signed with an £8m release clause (over our transfer record for an unproven teen!) when he was about 17 and had no professional experience and a number of clubs were looking at taking him on.

We're not talking a contract negotiated once he was a regular first team player, or a transfer negotiated as a star let. We're talking a transfer based on triggering a clause in a three year old contract for a, then, unproven teen
