Well that's a ban from football related stuff for a while if proven.

If he is found guilty, that'll be a long ban. What with Howe and Bowen banned and Pang nowhere to be seen, who will oversee transfers etc. The new owners, must be wondering what sort of madhouse, they are buying. The madhouse gets even madder. Wouldn't it be nice if SJM still run the club?

As I understand it, under FA rules you can't bet on any football match if you're involved in football above the National League North/South and the Women's Championship. You can't bet on any match or competition your team is involved with below those levels.

If he's placed a bet on any football match, he'll have broken the rules.

It does fit in with the culture at the club over the past six or seven years. There's been a complete lack of competency behind the scenes and the club's results over that time reflects that.

Was he betting on Reading to win
What an absolute melt.
I am unsure if this is a football club or a badly written soap opera!

He is not allowed to bet on any football under any circumstances while employed by the club. The FA visit clubs at the start of every season and remind them of this so the fact he has again chosen to ignore the rules is incomprehensible and will face a heafty fine and likely suspension.

He’s been charged, not convicted.
Evens he gets found not guilty….

What other rules has he ignored (hard to keep track….) ?

I guess that the FA will be slightly more lenient as he is not a player so can't directly affect what happens on the pitch (e.g Paqueta and his yellow cards).
Still, he will probably get banned from all football matters for a period of time.

What a shambles our club has become in so many ways.

Dear me. This was about the only way the clown show that is RFC could have got any more shambolic.

I thought Bowen was one of the small number of sensible heads at the club.

Paqueta is accused of spot fixing which is the most serious of the lot alongside failing to provide information. As we discussed last week on GF he’ll get the book chucked at him if found guilty.

Bowen’s case isn’t on that level but as I stated it is forbidden to be betting on any form of football and the FA couldn’t make it any clearer to clubs or individuals. If found guilty.

Here’s an interesting case from yesterday which should provide some context https://www.thefa.com/news/2024/may/29/huw-lake-sanctioned-300524

Based on that, Bowen might actually get off quite lightly. On the other hand, it is his second betting offence.

Great, so the only explanation for Bowen being charged with betting on football whilst employed by a professional football team for a second time is that he is a gambling addict.

Our man in charge of transfers and contracts, appears to be a gambling addict.

I'm not sure it's fair to suddenly rip into someone who has done a frankly brilliant job in shocking circumstances just because they also seem to have at best an addiction and at worst a chronic mental health condition.

I wouldn’t be in a rush to label him an addict either. Based on what the FA have said it would equate to 3-4 bets a month on average, hardly the stuff of an addict.
