How does this still happen? You can blame Southgate, but it seems that for as long as I can remember, when England take an early lead, you can guarantee we'll sit back and play like shit. The Athletic pointed out Sven's standard interview was "First half good, second half not so good".

I don't want to give Southgate a free pass; these players don't have the same historical baggage, and losing the 2018 SF and 2021 final for the same reason is unforgivable. But there seems to be deeper in our national psyche.

Only difference today is we didn't even play well before going 1-0 up. It was a gift.
