England v Switzerland

All your match comments for this probable shambles here. Ignominious penalty farce or the one game of the tournament where England actually turn up?

2-1 to the Swiss in normal time, I reckon.

I think we will win but I don't think it will be pretty. If he isn't going to play Foden as a 10 then don't start him, start Gordon or Palmer on the wing.

Would actually like a 3-5-2 for this one.

Pickford

Walker
Stones
Gomez

Saka
Rice
Bellingham
Mainoo
Palmer

Foden (floating)

Kane

I think it will be a repeat of the Swiss' last game - 2-0.

I'd be very comfortable with this being the starting line up

Southgate will f*ck off once this tournament is over regardless of if that involves a trophy or not.

The shit he gets already is way out of kilter with the onfield issues - though no denying a lot of the issues are his doing - and if it does end up with England winning the thing, then I think that would actually get worse, not better, if he were to stay on and do the next WC.

Can already see the views of - The performance in the way England managed to beat Jamaica 2-0 was wholly unacceptable for the reigning European Champions.

He'll be off and someone will give him a chance at club level or he'll get another international gig.

Will be missing the game due to playing cricket, so can imagine they'll put in an excellent performance in a 3-0 win.

I wonder if we will win 1-0 after Xhaka and Schar get sent off for them and Southgate explains that 9 men are very hard to beat and that he kept everybody on because the Swiss are a top side so getting all 10 outfield players behind the ball was imperative for the last 30 minutes.
He had even contemplated bringing on a second additional keeper to shore up the defence

Meanwhile Wharton, Gomez, the two other keepers and Watkins get no game time and Luke Shaw might be fit enough for the last 10 minutes of the final or to take part in the open bus tour, but not on the top of the bus for his own safety, when we narrowly lose but the nation should be proud of how every player contributed to such a noble effort and deserve MBEs or even knighthoods .

David Beckham sends his own very personal congratulations to the team and then asks one of the players if he can have their knighthood because of his charity work in putting 10p in an Air Ambulance charity box.

Hasn't Foden only spent approx 25% of his time playing as a no.10?

The England system is far more rigid than City's. Even if he starts on the wing for City he is allowed to drift inside to more or less a free role.

Although he has played mainly on the right for Chelsea IIRC he used to play wide left in games that he started for City or for games where he came on as sub.

I gather that he was a left-back in his early career at City so could easily play left wing-back if Southgate decided to go with 3 at the back.
It might be thought of as a bit of a waste of his attacking talent but at least he would be on the pitch and the poor Trippier no longer there to play square passes all night in our own half.

England will win but will be uninspiring whilst doing so - people will continue to be overly annoyed with Southgate despite England getting to another semi final.

If we play with 3 at the back as apparently Southgate is considering, then I think we will do ok.

2-1 England.

Not really sure what that would look like?

.....................Pickford
.........Walker, Stones, Konsa
TAA......................................Saka

:?:

But then what does your other 5 look like?

And that's a LOT of change in defence, in a not very strong defence, with Guehi suspended and I believe Trippier injured?
