2024/25 Expectations

by Royal_jimmy » 09 Jul 2024 11:20

Hi fellow nobbers

Hope you've enjoyed the summer so far.

Be interesting to see what your thoughts and expectations are for the season coming?

We've not lost any key players yet. Tbh I'd happily take maybe 3-4 signings maybe with one sale. If that happens then I think we should be getting upper mid table 8-13th. I don't expect playoffs.

I have a feeling Charlton, Birmingham, Rotherham, Posh, Bolton and Lincoln will be right up there. Wrexham will start well but I see them falling away. Huddersfield I think will disappoint, sounds like their players have attitude problems.

I will be happy if we finish the season, in whatever position we end up in. Yes, even the bottom four. Having said that it is looking more hopeful as each day dawns.

I have no expectations at this moment in time.

The first XI is good enough to be top 10 and with a few extra bodies possibly higher but until the ownership change is all done then none of that really matters. Comfortable for the season, winning more than we lose will be fine with me.

Yeah impossible to say until the takeover takes place, and we hear from the new owner. Also if we end up selling players like Azeez or Smith

If we kept the squad we have now and made 3 or 4 strong additions then it should be a good year. Even if we kept who we have now and didn’t make a signing I’d think we could make top half as long as we didn’t get injuries to the main men

But all up in the air currently

A season where we don't get near relegation will do me, but with a few additions I reckon we can challenge for a play off spot

Anything higher than last season will do me.

Yeah, no expectations until the ownership is sorted and we see what the squad will look like.

New owner(s) - If this one doesn't happen then my list below will change

New CEO, one who knows about running a football club and doesn't like questionable posts on twitter.

Same manager and much the same squad with backing form the club

Start the season in the same form we finished last season

Avoid relegation at all costs

No further points deductions

Tax bills and wages paid on time

No more protesting at the club, but happy to protest to help other clubs/raise awareness/keep football's ownership problem on the radar of the EFL, FA and Sports minister as long as it isn't detrimental to our club (would have to accept any attempt by rival fans to get a match abandoned if their club was in the same situation as us)

Regular communication from the club

A plan for the Womens Team from the new owners

Review/Overhaul of club management/key personnel from the CEO down to the academy to ensure we have no rotten apples and we are following the correct processes (I'd exclude Ruben Selles and his coaching staff from this, but would welcome his input as he may require additional resources or support).

Mr Dai to be charged, found guilty and sentenced for whatever shenanigans he's been up to.

Basically, a repeat of our post-December 2023 form, which should see us hovering just below the POs. Couple with a stable behind the scenes setup will make a good season.

Top 10, probably not top 6 but not a huge shock if we sneak in.

I'd be very happy with that.

Snowflake Royal Yeah, no expectations until the ownership is sorted and we see what the squad will look like.

I'm back in a place where my base assumption is that it will happen. We rejected offers for Azeez, no players are being touted, no staff have resigned. All of which indicate hope within the club, before even considering current reports in the press which are more than just hearsay.

So I'm expecting 3 or 4 bodies in over late July/early August and a top 10 finish. Selles did a brilliant job last season, but you don't rest on laurels. Time for the team to kick on. I'd set promotion in 2026 as a realistic ambition.

As said above, all depends if we ever get a new owner

It’s so opaque at the moment but even if we got a deal over the line tomorrow pre-season has probably been somewhat compromised. We’ve got to be on the back foot before we’ve even started, so a rough start has got to be expected. I reckon we’re in trouble at Christmas but fairly comfortably 15th by the end of the season.

I’d be happy not to be in a relegation battle. Mid table obscurity and new owners would be great.

What makes this pre-season indefinitely better than last year's is that we already have a settled squad now that could compete in the league and don't have to rely on last minute additions that will take a while to settle in ... now a few last minute additions are important but not essential for us to start strong.

Assuming Dai has phucked off and died:

Minimum - Mid table
Hoping - Play-offs

If we can keep the decent players we still have, and perhaps get some loans and a couple of free's in, then we have a chance of at least a mediocur season.

Other teams have already had 2 months of planning and preparation. No one ever stands still. Who knows what bids might have been made for players. That are currently on hold.
