At least we lost to a team with an identity who wanted to win by playing good football. I think Southgate genuinely believes "sufferball" is the way to win; to be fair look at France and Portugal, plus Madrid in club football. And it has made him the 2nd most successful England manager ever, by any measure.

But Spain exposed its limitations tonight, as they did against France. Perhaps it's time for a manager who's plan is based upon making the most of our attacking talent.

But thank fcuk we didn't lose to France out "sufferballing" us.

Brogue We did our best. We can hold our heads high

Yeah. Impossible situation when your two biggest players are shit all tournament and a negative to the whole team constantly.

Bellingham wasn't shit, just not very good.

Kane on the other hand....

I dunno, it seems a bit churlish right now to criticise Southgate but to me he is till too slow to make the changes.

Kane has been so clearly off the pace, and the change in momentum so marked when he went off, it is clear that he should not have started the final. It's not hindsight. Or rocket science. Clearly he likes a settled team and believes in only small tinkers, but it's always seemed to me that Southgate is just not quite brave enough to make those big calls.

Mainoo was clearly struggling out there. Palmer has looked adventurous and creative in all the games he has come on. The obvious chemistry he and Watkins showed in the semi, surely meant it was an obvious call to bring them on together.

Disappointing, but Southgate again showed that he just isn't quite up to winning a major tournament - everyone says he's a very strong man. In many respects I'm sure that's true - and it sounds a bit wishy washy, but maybe he's just a shade too nice.

I suspect Kane has been carrying an injury all tournament that we haven’t been told about.

I think Southgate is self aware enough to see his limitations as a coach. He's done a great job, but has had several chances to get us over the line. Time to give someone else a chance. Smart money is he resigns. All I'll say is that if his successor wins something, a bit of the victory belongs to him too. His job changing the culture of this team is more valuable than any tactical insight.

Think he's just getting older. He's also been playing in the Bundesliga which is pretty shite, a player of Kane's ability won't need to work nearly as hard as he did in the Premier League which probably meant he came into the tournament slightly undercooked.

They adapt to nullify the opponents. It's stupid to go to Man City and expect to attack, so they played the best way to beat whats in front of them. Comparing what Southgate does to Ancelotti and his pragmatic approach is misguided.

Sod that. Madrid are the biggest club in the world with resources to match anyone. Other teams should be adapting to them. They have to adapt to City as Pep has a vision and clear identity which they don't.

It's fine when you win, but only winning is acceptable when you do that.

Just wanted to say let's keep this in perspective. Spain are a good side and just because we are part of the Allies who won the Second World War doesn't mean we have a right to win football tournaments. We came close.

The thing I hate is going to work tomorrow is hearing from those people who know nothing about football (including lots of women, sorry to be misogynist) saying things like "its boring", "why don't they try harder", "we always keep loosing", "they should get the Lionesses to play as they always win", "xxxxxxxx was rubbish, why did they play him", yadda, yadda, yadda.

Southgate admitted on interview that Kane has not been on it - he's struggled to get up to the fitness / sharpness we needed (WTTE anyway).

Then why keep playing him?

Aggghhh!

The BBC pundits were all saying it (but not quite ACTUALLY saying it) - Southgate HAS to be replaced if we are going to get the best out of this bunch players.

I don’t think Potter or Howe will be good / strong enough.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - Postecoglu would be great.

I'm truly shocked that you have the same opinion about Southgate as you've had for the last 6 years at least.

It doesn't need a big name. It needs the right fit. Ever heard of Spain's coach before this tournament? All his past jobs were with their youth sides.

Also, Spurs are a massive defensive liability under him. Spain would have scored 5 or 6 against a team like that tonight.

Because he's the captain and best goalscorer available.

Strong rumours the next England manager will be Frank lampard. I’m done if that happens
