Zammo Some statement from Southgate. Welling up. He's given us some incredible moments over the last few tournaments but he's fallen short tactically and kept the faith with systems or players he perhaps shouldn't have (especially in this tournament). It's a tough job.

Excellent post.

Sone younger fans have been spoilt. One on TV said rubbish that’s two finals Ive watched England lose.

Fair point but try watching England before GS

Indeed...my first decade of watching England was the 1970's when we barely even qualified for anything.....

Excluding 1970
The first painful let down...

Silver Fox Well, now the haters ill get to find out if the grass is any greener (Hint - it's probably not)

Indeed. Time will tell. Only Capello (who couldn't even get us to a QF) and Hoddle (marginally) won a higher percentage of their games than Southgate, since Ron Greenwood over 40 years ago. Two finals and a semi-final, after one final and two semis in our entire history beforehand. Only Capello's England scored more goals per game since the 1960s. Best defensive record since Hoddle. Guy has been a huge asset to the England setup.

And international football is hard.

- Germany have one QF in their last four major tournaments, and since the last Euros have lost to Japan, Colombia, Poland, Hungary, Turkey, Austria and North Macedonia.
- Italy haven't played a knockout game at the World Cup since 2006, and since the last Euro final at Wembley they have lost to Austria, North Macedonia, England (who are SHIT) twice, and been thumped by Germany (also SHIT, see above).
- France won as many matches in normal time at the Euros as did England. They can't beat Germany (who are SHIT) either. And since the last Euros they have lost to Denmark (twice), Tunisia and Finland.

We've been spoilt the last few years, even if we have come up short at the end of things.

Would love it to be Jurgen Klopp, but it's going to be Eddie isn't it?

Or might the FA go for someone already "within" like Lee Carsley (the u21 manager)?

It's a toss-up between Graham Potter and Gary O'Neil, isn't it?

bcubed The FA have said previously that a succession plan is in place

Succession you say? Get down the bookies and put money on Steve Holland's spouse getting the job.

It's going to be Carsley, isn't it?

And if they actually have someone else in mind, it would be an option to appoint Carsley on a short-term basis

Who has shown that they have previously been lucky with the draw?

The FA apparently want Pep  And are happy to wait until his contract expires. That would be nice. Give it Lee Carsley for a year, then let Pep lead us to World Cup glory.

Yep this is how I see it.

Carsley will get the low profile nations league games and if he does well will get the gig....if he doesn't Klopp may fancy it by then or even Pep if its clear he's leaving City in a few months.

Really just want someone who has some clue tactically and prepares sides properly, unlike the last incumbent and his poor organisation when it matters most.

Is it wrong to look forward to the new appointee doing worse and all the anti-Southgate mob getting a load of egg on their unappreciative faces?

He was so ridiculously bad at all those things that he only managed 1 QF, 1 SF and 2 finals
In two of those we lost to arguably the best team in each competition at the time

It matters most to actually get to those stages because the most tactically astute are pretty hamstrung unless they actually reach those stages
