Zammo
Eddie Wallbank on X I understand that, as has been reported, the takeover of #ReadingFC is imminent. Senior figures at the club are impressed with Couhig who plans to improve the business and sell for a profit in the medium term. It is also worth noting that the EFL...

....have been integral in keeping Reading afloat. It is understood they have been extremely lenient with the club due to the nature of the situation, and ultimately have helped save the Ding; bending their own rules at times. Credit where credit is due.

Amazing how many ways there are for different people to rehash the same thing !
The bit about the EFL is interesting and if it is true would be interesting to know details.

Certainly encouraging but kind of numb to all these reports until I actually see it happen

Fantastic news. Also nice to hear the EFL have been extremely lenient with us in the last few months because of the circumstances (Dai deliberately being a cnut). Some respect returned to the EFL.

Our situation has never been the fault of the EFL
They are applying the rules (that we voted for in ratification)
Everyone knows who holds the blame

Of course not, but it's desperately appreciated that they have shown leniency in recent months due to the cause of our problems. They could easily have punished us further with points deductions and an extended transfer ban. They can see our problems are because of one poisonous little cretin, and they've stepped up for us. Without that we might not have a football club right now.

Well everyone with a few functional braincells, but that obviously doesn't include the crew who regularly chant "oxf*rd the EFL"

Which basically means Chelsea, Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal and City

Tbf the EFL guys who approved Dai were clowns. Parry and Birch have done a lot of work clearing up the shitshow they inherited.

We should have an EFL day where we all dress up as our favourite EFL employees.

Anyhow, Eddie has a decent track record. It does feel like the millionth time the deal has been "imminent" or "all but done". Isn't it 3 weeks since the telegraph said 2 weeks?

It's 9 working days tomorrow since Tim's "contact" told him that Couhig was confident of it being done in 10 days. So Thursday 1st August could be the day we get some semblance of a club back.

Have there been instances where we could have been punished but weren’t ? Would be interesting to know where this leniency has been applied. If we have been lightly treated I wonder what other clubs think of that ?

I would suggest that there’s no way the EFL would make public (deliberately) if they’d been lenient for exactly that reason

But someone has said they have been, and it would just be nice to know when. We tend to know when we’ve done wrong (missed payments etc) and I can’t recall us doing anything that went unpunished. It’s tantalising to be told they have not punished us as much as they could without having examples. Makes you question the accuracy of the claim.

What I would say is the political environment and timing will have affected the EFL's decision. Jobs would have been lost, regulation draconian and heads rolling if a club had been allowed to go under.
