People who get upset at verbal ticks bemuse me. Most of us have them to greater or lesser extents.

Big deal.

The only one that really annoys me is "Leeds, Leeds, LEEDS!" Stop treating them like Don Revie is still the manager.

Isn't that half the point of this and other forums, not even mentioning Twitter? It's to give bored people like myself and others a chance to whinge about anything, then have others say "Oh yes, I completely agree". It's hardly serious and is just venting and passing time, especially whilst bored at work and the weather is bleak.

In relation to Mick Gooding, his verbal tick ("listen...") doesn't annoy me really, but I do notice it. Ady Williams drives me insane though, and as others say, I turn it off now.

The BBCRB team have given me hours of entertainment over many years. I'm fine with the diversions - it's just chat, and it's always felt to me like they are familiar people, with their quirks and mannerisms. If you really cannot bear a lighthearted discussion of the sandwiches they're given or their journeys to the stadium I guess you can switch off, I've always enjoyed it.

I really feel much of the resentment of Dellor is because he's obviously from as pretty affluent background. Whilst I get that those of us from more average backgrounds would never get the same chances of getting that type of job, it's pretty universal in all walks of life, so to focus on it just around football commentary is just making life difficult for yourself.

And Adie is often asking questions to get conversation going, that's kind of his role, as a catalyst. Don't imagine it's because he doesn't know. (But I agree the LEEDS LEEDS LEEDS thing is obviously annoying...)

Whilst those with his background probably do stand a greater chance, it's still possible for those from more average backgrounds to do as well as, or even better than him, in that industry.

He did, however, really grate with me at the start of last season when he said on air something along the lines that returning to the SCL was something of a come down compared to covering Ascot and the rowing. Basically either implied or actually stated that he was now slumming it.

Dellor likely got the gig because of his dad's contacts - he used to work on grandstand back in the day.

Don't agree re Williams - he's supposed to be a pundit, if I wanted someone doing a clown like role I've got the pantomime at Christmas.

Gooding is tired and clapped out and as said above the "listen" thing is irritating.

I could just about stomach Dellor if the pundits were changed.

This.

Also can't remember them ever saying Selles doesn't rate Kelvin at all. Just that they think Selles doesn't see Kelvin as a centre forward in his system, which the evidence suggests is true. People who don't like them and just want a bunch of boring automatons on commentary have turned that into "Selles doesn't rate Kelvin".

Blakey gets to contribute as a pundit a fair few times and Jem gets a run out at some of the northern outposts. Thinks it's great to have all three available.

They have 4 hours to fill on a Saturday from 2pm till 6, For a football match that lasts 90 minutes. What the fcuk else are they supposed to talk about. Especially when we play Saturday Tuesday Saturday Tuesday it’s all been discussed to death 3 days before. Then you have to fill for another few hours again. You think they do a pretty good job personally. I enjoy listening to the games I can’t get to.

Well, they said it repeatedly in the last game, and last season. You not hearing it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Well almost every single time we've had commentary from a different club, it's far superior.

I don’t mind the chatter/banter before and after the game and my 90 year old mum loves Tim. I am a bit of a purist when it comes to football commentary having grown up listening to the radio in the early 70s. I loved John Motson and David Coleman amongst others. Tbh, I don’t normally listen to BBCRB until I am driving home in my car. However, I thought the commentators who covered the Cardiff friendly were much better.

Exactly...I don't care what's on before or after, I don't listen then....but when the game's on it would be nice for something a bit more professional akin to what other radio stations are offering.

Seems like we're all a bit bored waiting for the announcement and picking subjects that will always divide opinion like BBC Berks and Mark Bowen in the other thread :D

More options are don't listen! A radio has an off button or if watching on Royals TV (if you can these days)use the mute button or turn the sound down. If listening to audio on the official site turn the sound down and read minute by minute. There is also HNA where you can get updates on the game.

Tbf , you not remembering it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Mick has a real bee in his bonnet about it and mentioned it several times last season usually when Kelvin wasn’t starting, regardless of position.

On Saturday he said it again post match just because he was substituted.

I’ve some sympathy , it’s got to be hard to keep things sounding fresh when you’ve been doing 40 plus games all together for a number of years but I’d argue they’ve become the “automatons” you’re talking about. It sounds a lot less automated on the occasions Little, Karacan and Estcourt step in.
