Bowen sacked

Prolly deserves a thread of its own. Rather than tagging on to the other one. He’s suing the club too. Never liked him. Think he did fcuk all whilst here. Shady character good riddance

Not very surprising, but a real shame. He did a lot of good here.

One of our few competent managers of recent years.

Responsible for several of our better signings.

Helped put in place a lot of the things that have started turning us around since Ince was appointed. Signings, scouting network, Cat 1 reinstatement, cutting our cloth.

But there's been not an insignificant amount of blotting his copybook with statements that weren't really true or sensible that have bitten him, and of course the gambling problem.

Wish him all the best and thank him for the good work. But this seems as apt a time as any for a clean sweep.

Not convinced he would have still been here post takeover so, whilst it does look like an ever so convenient way of moving him on on the cheap, he has made it very easy for them.

I quite liked him and I do think he did some very good work here but I understand the desire for a new broom to sweep the old guard away and it's not a departure that leaves me annoyed or angry.

I wouldn`t think this is the work of Dai, why should he care what happens at the club now?, if the prospective new owners made the decision surely that can only be a good thing regarding the takeover by having a nice little staff turnover.

Regarding the legal action Bowen has broken football league rules, that`s a sackable offence in itself. he`ll need a decent lawyer to get a pay out on that.

Who actually sacked him Dai or the new owners ? Think he did a good job with getting in free transfers , but the betting issue again was a key issue

This thread is a useful guide.

If we didn't follow our own HR procedures, he may have a case even if the ultimate outcome was likely to be the same. It may have been Couhig seeing an opportunity to save money and replace him with Jacobson, in which case corners may have been cut.

Bowen will definitely divide opinions, but at the end of the day he’s done something he shouldn’t have done and therefore needed to be fired.

I thought he did a really good job as our manager and I think he deserves some criticism for recent events, but not all of it. He probably also deserves some praise because working with Dai, Kia and Pang must have been hard work.

If the takeover were to completely collapse I know we’d be oxf*rd, but would it be better to have Bowen at the club? Let’s hope we can soon move on and start a new chapter under Couhig and co.

A final squeeze from the Bowen constrictor.

Isn't Couhig a decent lawyer? You can look at that in two ways

I think it is a shame as Bowen did a good job, but he was the cause of his own downfall with the illegal betting and in my view the club had no choice but to let him go. No doubt the legal issues over the sacking will be settled quickly if the new owners ever take over.

So have Nigel Howe, Sue Hewett and Michael Gilkes. They weren't sacked.

Bowen will likely cite a lack of consistency from the club.

Yes I'd wager we've not heard the last from him.

It's the club's fault, they bet him he wouldn't take any action against them.

What has inconsistency got to do with breaking FA/EFL rules gambling on football? He hasn't got a leg to stand on.

Also is it not the second time he's breached betting rules whilst employed by us? The club were 100% right to sack him for it.

You can have commited all sorts of gross misconduct, but if you have some sort of mitigating condition and your employer has failed in managing it, then you can still sue the arse off them.

Years ago this happened in a previous work place where a guy who was Bipolar stayed working whilst we all went to the Xmas meal, and he went out for his own lunch, got pissed and told customers on the phones he couldn’t help them because he was going on his annual Xmas shoplifting spree and hung up on them.

Clear gross misconduct. But his manager had done nothing to tackle his previous poor behaviour, or manage his Bipolar, so HR had to give him a settlement because they hadn't followed proper procedures.

Whether Bowen will get anywhere or not who knows. But it's likely he can point to a gambling addiction and claim the club ignored the problem, did nothing to help and so they can't just sack him like that.
