KFOAE etc Does anyone go to matches anymore

by 6ft Kerplunk » 13 Sep 2024 11:43

How many of us still go to matches? I might be back in Reading for a reunion weekend at the end of October and was half thinking of putting myself through the misery of watching a match having not been for years,

Only if I'm down South, or the occasional northern match if it's convenient.

But otherwise no.

1 or 2 away games per year, ideally somewhere with good pubs.

Stopped going often when my eldest was born seven years ago. Now they're both a bit older I'd like to start going a few times a season, but it's hard because it's basically a full day out from here. However, Jr I is suddenly *mad* for football, so we're all planning to go to a match later this month. Seeing how that goes, either he and I, or all four of us, will hopefully start going more often. I'd love for both kids to really be in to going every game when they're a bit older. Going more often would also give me an opportunity to hang out with at least one old schoolmate who's still local, too.

The quality of the football is very much a secondary consideration.

Still a ST holder, but will prioritise cricket at the beginning and end of the season.

Off to my first game of the season tomorrow, which I'm actually really looking forward to.

Still go whenever I am back in Reading, half a dozen matches a season. If I am visiting my brother in Lancs, I get the odd Northern away game in too.

Having checked it looks like my plans to attend a match may be scuppered by Bristol Rovers being a 12:30 kick off.

Had a season ticket in Y23 from opening of the stadium until Stam's first season, got a season ticket again last season, now in the Eamonn Dolan Stand. It's actually really enjoyable!

I go to about one match a season and usually watch broadcast games when they're on.

I have reasonable intentions to attend more often but weekends are precious so midweek feels more likely, and I enjoy it under the lights more anyway.

I stopped going when Nigel Adkins was manager, which I now realise was ten years ago. I'd been an STH for about 20 years by that point, but I just wasn't enjoying it any more. Nowadays I'm content to look at the results from time to time.

Still on here every day, though. Which is probably weird.

STH from our first season back in the second tier under Pardew, have renewed each season since, a few of which I wish I hadn't but was happy to renew this season for the on the pitch action.... can't do pre-season games or cup games, too much of a commitment.

Jnr leon II go from SW London every (well as many as possible) home game since he was 6 and it’s genuinely something the older he gets more I value (he’s 15). He likes going (now that we’ve started winning)

We chat shit and have a laugh. If he’s got stuff on his mind we’ll talk in the car. It’s great.

Dais still a cnut mind you

Haven’t been for years, genuinely can’t remember the last time. Have a rare Saturday tomorrow where I’m not working and have no other commitments, and until I saw this thread it wouldn’t have even occurred to me to check the fixtures.

Have booked Go Ape at 3pm tomorrow.

Gone from being someone who would only miss a game in extreme circumstance to not going very often at all due to moving house.
Was a regular for many years and could never foresee a time when going to games wasn’t just what I did on Saturdays.
It was easier breaking the habit than I expected and I’m now involved with a non league side and enjoying a different connection with the game.
I still have very strong opinions on everything at the club despite having absolutely no idea about anything.
