SouthDownsRoyal I guess to be fair to Howe he needs to keep his end up, it’s his job (?!) to oversee the sale of the club and he is dealing with an idiot MIA owner so he needs to keep up with the line that it’s all ready to go (a bit like an oven ready brexit deal  ) to try and attract some other interest

But we all know (and surely he does too) that in reality there is (probably) no other interest and we’re in a dark place

Also anyone who may have some interest must surely be completely put off seeing how deals keep falling through and acquiring us from the outside looking in must seem a thankless task

The nature of the egos involved in football means many will fancy themselves to be the one to break the deadlock.

Let’s hope so but I don’t envy anyone trying to buy us and dealing with (or not) dai

What an appalling situation and my heart goes out to those more heavily invested in the club's fortunes than myself at this time, hurting though it does even for me, now an occasional attender at games.

Who knows what has gone on and the reasons for the breakdown in the current negotiations may never be known.

However, I'm guessing there are many in our fan base who do business deals, however small, and can hazard a decent guess.

One thing is true, If it doesn't smell right during the negotiations, then it almost certainly isn't. When there is a sign of prevarication or obfuscation following previously agreed rules of engagement, then 99 times out of a 100 it goes downhill from there. That's why when the doubts first arose a few weeks ago, wise heads would have known which way the wind was blowing.

It can occasionally be dragged back but that usually takes compromise on both sides.

My feeling is that Couhig has been played and I think he must be fuming. He seems like a decent businessman and a good egg but he was surely unwise to behave as if the deal were done and be pictured on social media at the club. It has made him look foolish.

Nigel Howe's utterances today are nothing short of disgraceful. He has as good as said that he has no idea what's going on and any prospective buyers, if there are any, would be wondering who the hell it is they are supposed to be negotiating with.

Sadly, I think we just have to hope that Dai does want to sell the club as there is sweet FA we can do about it. Interestingly, in one of Howe’s interviews I read he said we were a week away from administration. Does that mean Dai would actually put us into administration as opposed to liquidating the club? Who knows, but I guess that way he’d keep the stadium and training ground.

I think it more likely that Howe has a poor handle on the difference between administration and liquidation.

Let's be honest and admit none of us have a clue. Administration would ultimately result in a buyer and mean more money for Dai than liquidation. But if he was acting rationally, he would have sold to Couhig.

Sutekh Isn’t this the third time he’s pulled the plug? Wasn’t there one last winter then one late spring before this?

At what point does it start getting to where others should step in “on his behalf”?

What 'others'?

Genevra on the brink of exclusivity last autumn, he moved the goalposts. Exclusivity round 1 in spring with Chiron fell through and we don't know why. Now this. We've got close 3 times, inching ever closer each time.

Next time Dai signs but the fax machine is conveniently broken.

IIRC, there were multiple bidders in the winter, but only one got to the point of exclusively - which ended in late spring. I don't know if it was made public why it collapsed or who caused it to break down.

By my count, this would be the second time a serious takeover bid has fallen through, unless we count the Storey one as a serious bid.

We were told October a deal was near and should happen by new year. Unclear who this was, but doubtful it was ever Storey. This fell apart and we were told looking for new investors. Then we had Chiron, with no mention of Couhig, where exclusivity ended in the summer, then we had Couhig, possibly backed by Chiron, now there's apparently someone new.

Sounds like Couhig was going to put us in using his secured loans, which would have taken everything out of Dai's hands. Hence why Dai found the money to repay him. Because if he hadn't it would basically be over and Dai would be out.

Sutekh is saying someone should sideline Dai to make a decision. Buyers have no right to do that.

So far Dai has torpedoed deals with:
Genevra
Loitz
Chiron
Couhig and Redwood.

It is never happening, we're a dead club walking and groaning like a zombie.

While Howe is on a hiding to nothing thanks to NDAs, I really wish he'd stay away from this tired old trope which not one Reading fan believes in the slightest.

i managed to speak to my contact for the first time in a while. what he said is Dai want's to sell to someone who will want to take us to the next level, to pump money into the club keep the academy, and take us to the premier league. like he wanted to do. He was getting fed up with couhigs meddling behind the scenes and his vision for the club which was to run it on a shoestring. Dai has written into the contracts that he will continue to receive payouts, bonuses if you will. depending on club performances. ie if we get to the PL he will receive x. It was becoming more and more apparent that couhigs vision for the club made it very hard for Dai to see us getting there in the timeframe he wants. He wanted assurances from couhig that he was going to invest in the club and not just strip the club right down and look to sell for a profit in a couple of years, whilst still being a mid table team in league 1. Couhig would not give dai the assurances, so dai pulled the plug. He wants an investor to come in with a vision of getting the club to the PL.

He also said despite what people think he genuinely want the best for the club he is committed to selling but wants to sell to the right person. Not someone who is going to come in paint some walls do some decorating knock down a few internal wall make the place open plan and flip the club for a few quid in profit in a couple of years.

EDIT; this post was written without sight of Brogue’s ‘revelation’ above.

Just to add a bit of balance here, none of us actually knows the details of anything.

I detest Dai like anyone does and I suspect he is 100% being the arse, but we don’t actually know.

It could well be that people are taking the piss with their dealings thinking they can get a super bargain from an unfortunate situation. Imagine you having to sell your car and people offering 50p for it. It *may* be that people are taking advantage and as bad a businessman we know Dai is, he is still not stupid enough to just roll over and be shafted.

I like to think that anyone who comes in will appreciate the great opportunity this club is and pay fairly rather than just be an opportunist looking for a bargain. Did I read somewhere that Dai wanted a buyer who’d move the club forward? That could be read as “these people aren’t interested in the club they just want a bargain”. Someone offering 50p for my pride and joy car is less likely to continue waxing it, servicing it etc than someone who pays a fair amount.

Interesting, I was busy typing my post above on this slow iPad for ages on and off and didn’t see this post in the meantime, but it certainly marries up with what I’m putting out as a possibility.

So Dai doesn't care about the club, he just wants someone else to pump hundreds of millions in better than he did so he can get more pay days.

This is the opposite of what any of us should want. Which is a sensible owner, running us sustainably, rebuilding us brick by brick.
