Hound So 2 goals and 2 assists in the Bundesliga for genuine star Olise today.

Have a bit of pride in seeing him come through the ranks but reminder of what might have been

I have lots of pride seeing him do well. It'd be nice if we got a bit more recognition though; I know he came into our academy fairly late but we gave him the platform in senior football.

I can barely get my head around thinking what could have been. 2020/2021 is really a sliding doors moment for the club in recent times. Had we kept our bottle, we'd have gone up and who knows what could have been.

This "what if?" is overblown. We had a very thin squad, and while Olise was a great talent he was still a teenager a long way off hitting the heights we now see. We won a lot of tight games relying upon a single moment of magic from a striker who had never had a consistent season. Restrictions were starting to bite, and in January all our rivals strengthened while we could do nothing.

It would have been a magnificent over achievement to get promotion; it was not a missed opportunity.

I was thinking more in terms of, had we gone up we would likely not be in this mess now.

I suspect it would be far worse.

We wouldn't have survived for long and Dai would have spunked billions on anything Kia dangled in front of him.

There's no way to tell I suppose but it may have just postponed the inevitable.

As you say though I think Dai would have gone mad in the transfer market and we would have been laden with duds on massive money. I think the current situation is sending me a bit mad thinking about what could have happened to avoid it.

God knows what would have happened, prob not massively different to now but just delayed a bit

With Olise more just a general ‘what if?’. Having a talent like that on your books is pretty much once in a generation at our club

We'd have gone up, come straight back down and he'd have spunked twice as much trying to get us back up again. I dread to think how much worse it would have been.

Imari Samuels back on the bench for Brighton. Another youngster who got away, and in the position where we have the greatest need...

What's Mola up to? He's the one that seemed odd to let go.

I didn't rate him at all at the start of last season, but really think we should have tried to extend him. Maybe we did and he jut wanted out, although it doesn't seem hugely like Rovers would offer him a lot more than us.

I thought he was the only one we made and offer to who declined it.

I thought he had a huge amount of potential and was sorry to see him go.

Maybe, I don't remember other than being surprised all of him, Carson and Guinness-Walker were allowed to leave at the same time, leaving us with just Dorsett and some academy players who'd not played a minute for LB. Especially when we'd lost a load of CBs so Dorsett might be needed there and we couldn't spend any money to entice top players.

Was sorry to see Mola go. Had a lot of quality about him and in the last third of the season I thought he was excellent.

My only thought regarding him going to Bristol Rovers, is that he probably thought he'd be more likely to be at a settled club without the external issues we have, and is not likely to have to worry about getting paid.

I'd expect him to play higher up the pyramid if he keeps developing.

yeah, we knock him, but he scored ‘millions’ in the non-league circuit (281 goals in 246 games for Benfield alone)

Would have been a great signing if we were in the Conference South. Unfortunate that Burns didn't know the difference between that and Division 1 as was. Or did he sign him after relegation? Still, at best 3 tiers out

Yes, obviously.

‘Flattered to deceive’ at Swansea on loan before us (5 in 7)

Thrown-in as our only outlet from being a Newcastle bit-parter, never had the chance to be “one for the future” at our level…….which turned out to be the correct decision to offload as it has proven.

Not quite the joke donkey as portrayed tho’
