Hound Actually I can believe this. Couhig strikes me as quite a hard nosed business man - he wasn’t taking us over because he loved the club or any of that, solely a business transaction. He was looking for a bargain and can imagine him trying to force the price down

I think all the getting the fans onside was a slightly cynical effort to push it through

I’ve absolutely no doubt at all that Dai isn’t faultless in this but at the same time I didn’t have a huge amount of time for Couhig other than the fact he was getting rid of Dai

Still hearing nothing about any other offers knocking about which is worrying though

Is silence worrying? It's been a soap opera for a year and we've got nowhere. I'd be more than happy for it to be a bolt from the blue.

I guess on the plus side the silence also means the wages and hmrc are being paid. Which is slightly suprising

This is close to my view & I found the PR stuff before the deal was sealed a bit unprofessional and unserious - a businessman trying to gain leverage on a deal but messing with people's emotions at the same time....

I can also believe that the full price of say £28M may well have been the eventual upper end of the deal - but that during the exclusivity, the terms - i.e. what was upfront vs. contingent on certain criteria being achieved evolved and it may well have been £8M upfront with other add ons contingent on stuff that may or may not have been achievable. there are many ways to spin the truth.

The minutes from the meeting that STAR had recently with the EFL are an interesting read- they confirm that Dai has paid all his personal fines to the EFL.

WestYorksRoyal Not sure I buy the £8m figure as it seems extreme, but let's be honest it's certainly believable that Couhig tried to knock the price down after due diligence. It's how these things work, plus it looked like for all the world that Dai couldn't pay the debt back and Couhig had him by the balls. The biggest shock the day it fell through was that Dai had somehow found c. £5m to pay him back.

With that context, it's to be expected that Couhig would try pushing his luck. Notable that people have reported the "Dai family" paid off Couhig's loans, so perhaps it was Yongge's sister bailing him out of the mess he found himself in.

Exactly, and then there's the money he put in before buying.

What's more believable, the attempted whitewashing of Dai and scape goating of Couhig? Or Dai being a pcunt.

Couhig is gone, he doesn't matter. Dai is still a pcunt and has to go.

The most I think about the social media side and Couhig's behaviour the more angry/frustrated I get with the whole thing. I don't hold any grudges against him but thinking in hindsight now about him on Twitter, wearing an RFC coat in the Purple Turtle saying stuff like "Getting business done" is ridiculous.

Same as telling fans in the ground "It'll be done on Tuesday"

Yes agreed

And just to note I don’t think Dai is any less of a tosser for any of Couhigs behaviour. I can’t stand him for what he has done and continues to do

I believe the podcast personally. They arnt bullsh+tters and this does seem to make sense. I've always doubted if Couhig had the financial clout. This suggests he didn't and either he has wasted our time, or his backers were half hearted and never fully commited....that's of course if there were backers.

The same podcast said Wilder was a done deal and even released an episode to confirm this before swiftly deleting. Not buying it myself.

These things don’t have to be binary of course. It’s not necessarily Dai being stupid or Couhig being a chancer. It could be both, it could be one or the other. If Couhig was offering £15 million up front (50%) and the rest on performance you can understand Dai not liking it. For one thing it potentially incentivises Couhig to not move things along as quickly as he might if promotion in 2 years sparks a multimillion payout and promotion in 3 doesn’t. You’d think Dai needs cash up front and if Couhig played on that by offering (say) just £20 million for cash then that’s not an unreasonable Stance from a business perspective but a big drop for Dai.

yeah, it wasn't a compliment. And i wouldn't thank me just yet I've been speaking to the board owner about banning the over 60's on the team board. We feel they are too old and out of touch to understand the modern game. we are looking for a younger and fresher audience on here. He said he was going to draw up a list of all the registered users over 60 so we can review.

From what I heard (and who knows whether that is the real deal or not, although I'm pretty confident it is), the general tenet of the podcast is spot on, but the numbers don't match. Couhig was after a discount, but not on the scale suggested - as you said, he's a hard nosed businessman but also a realist. This one was definitely not Dai's fault, for once. I've heard things all along this process and all of it has proved accurate - but I don't post every snippet because it changed so much from week to week that it just looks someone, somewhere, is making it all up. Sometimes the truth is indeed stranger than fiction.

What about posters over age 60, but still mentally about 16/17.

Re: Couhig. Obviously none of us know what was really going on with him. But he clearly wasn't a 'chancer' or some joker looking to use this to increase his publicity. He put £5m into the club, was working from Bearwood and was taking key decisions. He's still got the picture from outside the training ground as his profile pic. He clearly thought that the deal was going to go through. Maybe he misjudged the situation and thought he could get away with a low-ball offer, that's business at the end of the day and if he thinks he can't buy the club at a price he can make a profit from in the future then can we really blame him? Ultimately the only way he could make money would be leaving us in a better situation than he found us.

I suggested in an earlier post that maybe Dai has found a new revenue source and decided to hang on to the club for a better price in the future. That didn't go down too well here. But I did say that an indication of this would be if he paid off his EFL fines. . . . .

I think that Dai pulled as the paperwork would have been drawn up over months. He would have been well aware of payment schedules and conditions.

I would suggest waiting a few months (January?) and then “miraculously” Couhig and Dai will have resolved their differences and the same deal is back on again…
