Snowflake Royal Best experienced midfielder we've had in years.

I’d even add swift to that list.

It's hard to compare across divisions. But he's more important to this team than Swift often was. The one exception for me was the 21/22 season. We would have been relegated a year earlier without the performances of Swift.

Yeah. Wing performs between October and March, so he has that over Swift.

Left off the injury prone Jekyl and Hyde Swift deliberately. Sometimes he was unplayably good, sometimes he was arse, depends which part of which season.

[quote="PlasticRoyal"]They were really off it yesterday, was it the boggy ground and the ball not moving around as expected?

Most concerning aspect from me was we gave crawley so much time and space around the edge of the box, and they found the through-balls with such ease. But worse than that, when they did find a little through ball our boys just sort of cantered around like it was someone elses problem to fix.[/quote

Agree with this,.stood off quite a lot waiting for each other. Massively flattered by the score, although all good goals in their own ways so credit due. Been a critic of Button, but other than the one absolute howler, he had a great day.

I'm surprised by the number of people who seemingly only saw Button make one massive howler (presumably his perfect pass down the middle of the area to their forward). What about the one a bit before that when he let a gentle back pass go under his foot, whilst under no pressure, and only just managed to get back to it before it crossed his goal line.

We were very close to conceding two relatively early goals courtesy of those mistakes and might well have struggled to recover from that point.

Fortunately he significantly upped his game in the second half and produced some very good and probably crucial saves.

I wouldn't consider what you describe as a howler. Momentary lapse of concentration, no harm done. It's not gifting the ball to the opposition to leave it up to them to take the chance or not, and no goal conceded. If it goes in, yeah, but it didn't.

Even the dreadful pass, there were at least players back.

For a second choice keeper he's pulling off a lot of great stops. And whilst there have been errors, they've almost exclusively not cost us this season

I agree: he made two massive errors. The one that had to be cleared off the line was a much bigger error though.

I do wonder how much of our strategy was down to us having a couple of midweek games in a row, so we may need to preserve energy more and sitting off more as a result.

It certainly wasn't a 4-1 game. On another day, I wouldn't have been surprised if Crawley went on to win that game with the chances both sides had.

Just wish Selles would move him more forward his shot to goal ratio must be impressive. If he played further forward he would bag, and create more goals. Wasted back there and he seemed to be playing even further back yesterday.

That one that sort of rolled under his foot wasn’t really that close to going in or anything. Was a bit of a heart in mouth but it dribbled very slowly from his foot and he was always getting it back

Leaving it till 30 mins before kick off is very poor planning.

I have never ever had a problem parking there......as I said. Why would he t be different today?

Open day at the Uni

Ah....Thank you. that makes sense. I knew Brogue was talking crap when the park and ride he was going on about closed last August, not just yesterday.

Well yeah maybe if you actually took notice of things I would have the need to wind you up. I mean it’s not as if you weren’t warned

You're guaranteed howlers with Button sadly. Thankfully you're guaranteed some decent saves too.

Not reading the whole thread but in case I missed it, anyone know why Selles was going absolutely nuts at Craig for after that first howler? I assumed it' because Craig had put Button in a tricky position but watching replay it wasn't Craig so that's a bit confusing. He went proper ape.

I think he was angry because Craig ( and others) were playing short passes for quite a while and Ruben thought Craig should have wacked it down the line to clear it.

Does a mistake become less bad if a goal doesn't result? It becomes less critical, sure, but that's all. I'm not going to slate the guy over it, but both were bad mistakes.

Overall, I don't really get the idea that some have that we were terrible yesterday. It was pointed out that Crawley are very good at retaining the ball, which is what they did, but we also saw why they are down the bottom - their shooting is poor, and their defence is not great.

We weren't 'lucky' yesterday. We were effective. When you have as much possession as they did, and can only score through a deflection, while conceded four at the other end, you don't deserve to get anything.

We weren’t terrible, but we were incredibly sloppy. How many short corners did they take under no pressure, it got to the stage that even 1871 were howling at the players to close it down. Lost count of how many touches, often in yards of space did they have in our box and as someone eluded to, everyone seemed to think it was someone else’s issue.

Yes we won 4-1 and that is what the record book will state, but the devil here is in the detail. A more ruthless side would have buried us, we cannot rely on 2 goals from handy ricochets (although Savage’s goal was no give me) and a Wing worldie every game.

I reckon I have missed about a dozen games at the MS (excl covid) since it opened in 1998, and there was never been a more unreflective score line when compared to how the game played out.

Reading 3-2 West Brom springs to mind. There was a game against Coventry a couple of seasons ago where they totally dominated us, but we only won that 1-0.

Still in the bottom few. Cambridge just won their second game in a row away at Stevenage... they're still pretty shit.

Lincoln hadn`t been beaten on the road for 14 games before tonight, Crawley impressed me Saturday, despite the result I`d say they were the best team I`ve seen this season.
