Sanguine Brobers, do you think a different manager could get a better tune out of this group, or is it just an awful squad filled with terrible purchases?

Dunno, he's not a bad manager.

For example, If you had to choose between ETH and Slot based on their records over a similar period you'd defo go with ETH. (I'm aware you may recruit for a style that fits your squad). It's interesting for a couple of reasons. First the obvs similarity and second the transition. LFC seems to have managed it correctly whereas Moyes came into a successful squad (champions) and was like 'nah, fcuk this I'm changing it all!'

Is he the right guy? Prolly not but I'd keep him until the end of the season unless a complete disaster (e.g. Kenny Dalglish's 2nd coming)

ETH;Ajax
CL: Semi-Final, (very unlucky(?) to go out on a late away goal. Beat RM 4-1 at the Bernabéu and Juventus 2-1 away)
Eredivisie: 2018–19, 2020–21, 2021–22 (was top during canceled Covid season) (averaged 100+ goals a season)
KNVB Cup: 2018–19, 2020–21; runner-up: 2021–22
Win: 73.5%
He also finished 3rd in the prem and won two cups.

Slot; Feyenoord
Eredivisie: 2022–23
KNVB Cup: 2023–24
UEFA Europa Conference League runner-up: 2021–22
Win: 65.5%

btw pretty much every new manager has come in, done well for a bit, and then it's turned to shit. So a new manger replacing ETH and then doing well for a bit means nothing to me (seen it before).

LVG: top 4, FA Cup, sacked
Jose: 6th (EL Win), 2nd, sacked
Ole: 3rd, 2nd, sacked

Little bit unfair on Slot not to mention his decent work at AZ Alkmaar, if you're referencing ETH's success from 2018-2020?

Some managers take to the PL well, others really struggle. Both ETH and Slot were undoubtedly successful in the Eredivisie. Other than an excellent Cup Final against City not seen very much from ETH to suggest he's going to be a success in the PL. Slot's taken 18 points from his first 7 PL games. Man U probably the best scalp. ETH got 12 points from his first 7 including decent wins against Liverpool and Arsenal.

He's not going to better the 3rd place he achieved in his first season. Can Slot mirror that this season? Time will tell, but I'd be surprised if they didn't finish in the CL spaces.

I just used Arne Slot's wiki and copied what he'd won. If I was referencing his 2018-20 stuff, it means he's defo not as good as ETH

ETH and Slot took over entirely different situations.
- ETH came into Utd's worst-ever prem team (6th place) and had to change the way they played. Slot is keeping what Klopp built running.
- ETH has primarily played teams currently in the top half. LFC have yet to play a team currently in the top half (including Utd  ).
- ETH has dealt with a takeover, Greenwood, Sancho, Ronaldo...all off-field incidences not of his making. INJURIES last season

Time will tell, Slot might get LFC their second title in 34(/5) years. ETH could get the tin tack tomorrow

Because there is nowhere better for it - former United forward Diego Forlan is to make his professional tennis debut next week. Forlan was a very good junior tennis player before focusing on football, and returned to the sport after his retirement. He is ranked 112th in the world in the over-45 category by the ITF, and next week will play in a doubles event on the second-tier Challenger Tour alongside Federico Coria at the Uruguay Open.

Winston Biscuit West Ham 2-1 Man Utd

Did you see the penalty that was given? <SMFH>

I get the LOLz cos it's against Utd but that could happen to your club (unless you support Man City)

Didn't take any of the numerous chances we had and got fcuked by Michael Oliver on VAR

Laughable VAR decision. Just like the several total shambles we had last season. Can only think the VAR ref thought it was in the West Ham penalty area, in which case a penalty for handball would have been valid. Mind you, Utd only have themselves to blame - has Darwin Nunez been taking their training?

Be interesting to hear the comedy excuses SKY get on their referee show tomorrow.

Next up in the league for Man Utd is Chelsea. They have a nice run of fixtures after that, but if he fails to beat Chelsea will he still be there for them?

Let Ten Hag handle the Chelsea game then get RVN in to manage them with a nice start of PAOK, Leicester, Ipswich, Bodø/Glimt, Everton!

listening to Lars Sivertsen (euro journalist) this morning who said Amorim is pretty fixed on playing 3 at the back, and that he was in talks with Liverpool previously and it ended up not happening in part because he said they had to play 3 at the back if he joined and they ended up agreeing at the time Liverpool just didn't have the players for that.

Just so happened we bought a load of CBs :?

DeLigt, Martinez, Yorro, Maguire, Evans, Lindelof, (Shaw) is pretty decent to choose from

I put Shaw in brackets as he's so injury-prone...1/2 an hour later:

Yeah there was contact here but nowhere near enough to send Holland 4ft vertical in the air.

He should be fcuking booked for that regardless of whether it's a penalty or not

Garnacho shouldn't be a starter. Utd should have a better play that he gets subbed onto at around 70 minutes

(same with Amad and Hojlund tbh)

Didn't say it wasn't a pen, just that he launched himself like a kid on a trampoline at the slightest touch in a blatant show of gamesmanship.

Watched the game as a neutral along with a Chelsea fan.
Man Utd currently look no better than any side in 13th position with so little drive about them.

IMHO Chelsea should have won easily but , I am informed, they play well every week up to and around the penalty area but often fail to create a chance.

Caicedo now looks the player he was at Brighton but Casamiro looks the player that Real Madrid were only too happy to get rid of ( for the sort of money that clubs paid for Isak, Palmer and Harland), something that presumably could happen soon to Rashford, a mere shadow of his former self.
