Hound Don’t get me wrong, he was pretty useless as a manager. But some people generally seem to hate the guy; or maybe that’s just Twitter

Just another Clement, Pauno, Gomes for me - out of their depth with the odd good idea and unable to turn it round when things went wrong

He did however seem to understand the importance of the relationship with fans

I also don't understand some of the vile hatred for Ince. As you say, it may just be Twitter but I see it relatively frequently. This includes:

"Was enjoying <insert sports show> until that c--t Ince appeared on screen"

I also saw recently something like "Wish Happy birthday to Paul Ince" by an official account of some kind. A few people quoted it saying "Absolutely not, I hope he has a terrible day" or something.

Reading fans (and football fans) are weird. He did as much wrong as any other manager has.

Yeah that’s what I was getting at. It’s odd. He was generally hard working and respectful, just a bit shit at his job. Find it all a bit weird as you say

There's always someone being a pcunt on twitter. Thankfully, it's never me.

Ince is a fairly polarising character generally. His way he moved from West Ham to Man Utd angered the Spammers, the way he moved to Inter angered United fans, going to Liverpool as an ex Man U player angered a lot of people.

He's quite single minded and self confident but also gets quite defensive and that rubs people up the wrong way. I think also after almost a decade out of the game, he was having to prove himself all over again.

Club was (is?) broken. He was in charge when the music stopped.

Yeah I can't work out why a minority of fans hate Ince so much more than they hate Clement.

On an unrelated note, anyone know why Chelsea fans had such a problem with Canoville?

I don't know why anyone would hate Clement. Yeah, he was shit. He tried. Some of his ideas/signings were good but failured anyway.

I don't recall him being an arse.

Ince was certainly an, abrasive, character.

In the 80's, it was mainly because he was black.

Chelsea had more than their fair share of Home County Himmlers in the early 80s watching them.

Don’t think it was ‘mainly’ that. It was entirely that and the fact that he fought back….

Canoville was, iirc, Chelsea's first black player.

His autobiography is a solid one but he does fail the 'never trust anyone with more children than fingers' test.

Him, Nutkins ...

Harsh on Craig McKinlay.
Especially when he only has one child

We were brilliant today, apart from conceding the late goal. Will the home fans give us any credit ?

They're an almost annoyingly sane and measured bunch:

"Odd game. We didn’t play well and I thought Reading were the best team we have played at home this season but had enough good chances to get a draw. Poku should have scored at least 2 the second half.

Yet another shit ref although not the reason we lost."

-

"Both sides look dog shit at the back."

-

"Frustrating but nothing to have a meltdown about. We’ll be very Jekyll and Hyde this season, it’s just where we’re at."

-

"Quite an even game chances wise. Overall they did deserve the win."

-

"Flat game. Flat atmosphere. Two early goals took the wind out of our sails. Subs at the end lively. No point losing our heads though. Onto the next."

Not a lot from the Barnsley fans, but this one caught my eye:

"Thought we were good tonight against a decent Reading team. Attending Oakwell with the other 7,000 was quite pleasurable for once.

A lot of better performances from a number of players tonight I thought but we have no natural goalscorer so unless we find one in January, this squad will toil to take us up.

A quick word on Reading. Some have described them as poor or bang average!! Give your head a wobble. Their Coach should be given the Manager of the Year award already. I can’t believe how he’s managed to produce a side like that with 50p and both hands tied behind his back. Amazing. Their back 4 were aged 16, 17, 19 and 21. And they all looked hungry and up for it. Oh……their number 10 was a **** though."

Ruben must have found that 50p down the back of a sofa!

:D

Appreciate the guys thoughts though.

It's refreshing and nice to see those recognising the manager.

It's weird though that some of our own fans seem to love saying stuff like "he's really not that good, if he went it would be no big deal".

Given all we've witnessed over the last 5-6 years and the continual failing managers, many of whom fans hated, it's sad to see fans just not appreciating him or the achievements. Considering the players being sold without his knowledge, the ownership saga, the missing pay for players and probably him, the lack of food and away hotels they went through, and he's still here. Amazing guy.

I noticed some Wigan fans commenting on us in a positive light, asking why we've been able to build a side capable of looking good at this level and getting the most out of our players - whereas they haven't.

Obviously the academy system helps, but absolutely the coaching staff has to be commended for our relative success - especially following the situation we were in twelve months ago.

Great to see people outside our fanbase pick up on that.
