is the premier league normally this tight at this stage of the season? 4 points covering 3rd to 13th? its crazy that Utd are only 4 points off a CL place.

It is still very early in the season with only 29% of the fixtures so far played and I guess would not be a lot different from most seasons except the bottom clubs might normally have a few more points than now.

ok looked up the table last season after 11 games, the number of points between 3rd and 13th was 12 points
2022/23 11 points
2021/22 9 points
2020/21 8 points
2019/20 10 points
2018/19 16 points
2017/18 10 points
2016/17 12 points
2015/16 9 points
2014/15 8 points
2013/14 10 points
2012/13 12 points
2011/12 14 points
2010/11 6 points
2009/10 12 points
2008/09 9 points
2007/08 12 points
2006/07 9 points
2005/06 8 points
2004/05 11 points

so in the last twenty years ( i cant' be bothered to go back any further) this season is the tightest between 3rd and 13th. The only season than comes sort if close is 2010/11 at 6 points.

actually i can be bothered as i'm interested now

2003/04 14 points
2002/03 7 points
2001/02 8 points
2000/01 7 points
1999/00 11 points
1998/99 6 points
1997/98 9 points
1996/97 11 points
1995/96 12 points
1994/95 8 points
1993/94 6 points
1992/93 9 points

so this is indeed the closest its ever been since the premier league started 32 years ago

So the conclusion is ?
Maybe that Liverpool and City are just better than the rest who are kind of much of a muchness especially with Bournemouth being as close to a Champs League place as Man Utd and Brentford even closer.

What a tedious crapshow Chelsea v Arsenal was yesterday.

Arsenal's failure to sign a top striker costing them again. I wonder what Edu's role was in that decision and whether the new guy will attempt to rectify that ridiculous situation in January.

Is there a top striker out there who is available and wants to go to Arsenal?
Arsenal perhaps are now showing that they have rather overachieved and that their players aren't quite as good as they and their fans think they are.

Not a great game yesterday to watch as a neutral.

Eeesh. Not a good look for PGMOL. David Coote suspended immediately after a video was circulated in which he calls Jurgen Klopp a 'cnut' and goes on a foul-mouthed rant about Liverpool.

His "decision" in the lead up to Liverpool's first on Saturday makes a bit more sense now

Overachieved without a top striker? Maybe.

But having failed so narrowly over the last couple of years it feels to me that they are slightly hamstrung by their burning desire not to chuck away points and just aren't taking enough risks. They've become a little boring to watch.

That and being too reliant on Odegaard to open up defences.

I'm sure there'd be a top striker or 2 who would be happy to go to Arsenal if they were prepared to pay enough to get them.

The state of refereeing and officials in this country is wholly deplorable, what chance is there for the lower divisions? Liverpool fans won’t want him near any of their games again, so no doubt he’ll be appointed to officiate on VAR when they play City

Yes, not even a yellow and the commentators were convinced that if Nunez hadn't scored Bailey of Villa would not have been sent off.
Dreadful ref , as most of them are, and it looks as though he won't be around for some time refereeing at the top level.

I am sure you are right about joining Arsenal but where are these top strikers guaranteed to succeed?
If Raheem Stirling can't solve the problem then nobody can.

:D

He'd probably have put away that last second chance that fell to Trossard.

He's always been pretty good from a couple of yards out.

Didn't give a pen for a blatant pull against the Villa player either...persistent

Agree that Bailey was lucky to still be on the pitch! What's the exact rule in that situation as you obvs haven't denied a goalscoring op for LFC but you have for the individual player.

LFC looking good this season (vomit_emoji). Will need to find some deflections to cope e.g. shit on Klopp by saying if Arne can do it first go he (Klopp) can't have been that good whilst at the exact same time shitting on Arne by saying it's Klopp's team!
