I think I've said it before but the BBC Scotland pundits and commentators are a cut above the usual suspects. James McFadden is excellent IMO (as is Neil McCann but he's not in Germany) and Rachel Corsie is proving that there are decent female pundits.

Moyes and Hart were decent value as well.

I think that was the best panel I've seen so far - both Corsie and Hart were surprisingly articulate, although the whole panel was more focussed on Scotland's improved performance as opposed to the missed opportunity to win the match, which didn't really get touched upon.

Think it might be an idea to move away from ex-footballers (especially those who failed as managers)

They're not the brightest. Then the non-footballing presenter asks them what it would be/feel like to <whatever> the reply is always so fcuking obvious

Media reporting that the Mail Online has seen an email that reveals the BBC are at last going to drop the dreadful Gary Lineker. Mail journalists were apparently told to "- off" when they contacted Gary for comment. Presume this just means his current deal won't be renewed when it finishes next year. If true, expect him to soon be hosting the World Cup finals on ITV.

Why is Gary Lineker dreadful?

Also...

The MailOnline said it had been unable to verify the authenticity of the email.

Big shocker there.

I like Lineker.

I suppose he IS overpaid, but he presents very well and, I’ll be honest, I tend to agree with his political positions.

He has the right mix of “enthusiastic fan” and very successful ex pro who played at the highest level, including at Barcelona.

Yeah, I know that, we all know it. I wanted him to reply so he looked like an even bigger mug.

Is he though? He'd have 3 times the salary on a commercial channel.

There's seems to be an expectation that the BBC shouldn't pay the going rate then people moan when they lose rights to commercial channels and stuff isn't free to air.

I do not like Gary Lineker as I find him smug, uncharismatic and tedious. That is an opinion, I can accept others may thing he's wonderful and that is their opinion. Life is about opinions and the ability for those to be debated sanely at all levels.

Personally could not give a shiny shite what his politics are or what he likes or dislikes but do find him speaking up on matters unconnected with his sports punditry tiresome and makes the BBC look stupid when some of those things appear at odds with BBC policy and yet he doesn't get censured for it.

What is the point of ex-footballer pundits, barely a GCSE between them and half of them are failed managers!

That.

I mean, he's clearly excellent at what he does.

He also looks frankly ridiculous for someone who is 64 next month, the suave bastard.

Doesn't middle age pass you by quick? (He says, entering middle age).

Lineker was 38 when he took the job on Match of the Day. 63 now, he's done 25 years in the role.

Jimmy Hill, Bob Wilson and Gary Lineker as ex-players have provided over 50 years service as lead presenters on BBC Sport.

Who are the top candidates to step into their shoes?

The number of media roles have increased stratospherically for ex-players in the last 25 years but I can’t think of a single one capable of filling the role.

I suppose Jenas was being groomed for the role but that seems unlikely now. I must be missing someone.

If there isn’t one I guess I’d go for Jason Mohammad - he’s likeable and smooth enough.
