Snowflake Royal That sounds an incredibly implausible amount given our situation.
Just missing an extra yard/ few inches from being clearly a top player. And he may prove to not need thatto get there.
6 ft 3 in, looks shorter on the TV though.

Snowflake RoyalStrandedSnowflake Royal Yeah it's a good point, I think there's heaps more examples... weren't Abrefa and Anderson also thought to be ooc in preseason and got options extended, I think.
I would expect it to be a routine clause in youth player contracts when they're on edge of the first team.
Minimises risk of losing someone you want, especially cheap, but limits your exposure to being stuck for four years with once promising, now lame duck players.
Which i felt was an issue with some of our youth not too long ago.
Saying that, £9m is still clearly misleading. Anything like that would be bound to include most of it only being paid after x PL appearances or starts.
Oh it won't be 9m up front but it all depends on if the add ons are "easy" or "hard" as to how good the deal really is.
So it might be say 4m up front, 1m once he makes his debut, another 1m if he plays in the CL, 1m once he makes 20 apps etc, etc...
Personally, I doubt it would be more than £2m upfront. Probably less.
I'd stage it say something like:
£1.5m
£1m on debut
£4m on 10 PL starts
£2.5m on CL start

Yep, that sounds about right. I wonder if we’ll add on a sell on clause.

From Despair To Where? Not great examples.
Andy Robertson was 23 and already a Premier League player when Liverpool signed him.
Olise was one of the best players in the Championship and clearly Premier League standard.

Snowflake Royal I think Bindon needs to be very careful where he moves.
There's no point going to a big PL club to rot in their Academy, or get loaned out to L1 and Championship clubs.
Going to a struggling or basketcase Championship side is also risky. Easy to be relegated back to L1 or sidelined after a managerial change.
He needs stable and regular football, preferably in the Championship or similar standard foreign league.
I don’t think there's many clubs who could afford him, that can offer him the football he needs to develop his career fully. But at the same time, he can't afford to keep slumming it with us for too much longer, given our state.
Not that it matters for us, we just need the money.

retro royal Think Nelson Abbey is a better example, sitting on the bench at Swansea, barely played a competitive game since leaving us.

I wonder about Vickers too. Probably young and inexperienced enough for it to be ok. But he's gone from playing semi-regular L1 football, and probably would be playing regularly this season. To playing U21 football, which we know is much less competitive than L1.
But to go from having 50+ professional starts to U21 football is nothing but a backwards step professionally, no matter how good the coaches and young talent around you is. IMO.
And no one seriously thinks Bindon is going to go from L1 to starting for Arsenal, do they...

But you have paid no regard in your posts to the massive jump in earnings that he will get even as just a squad player.
Money would certainly come into his reckoning and why not?.
