Sutekh  No wonder there's talk of dumping all this stuff that's so open to abuse and moving to the simpler method of salary caps on squads.

Sadly that's open to abuse just as much.

All the morden-day equivalents of players finding a roll of fivers in their boots at training - secret payments to overseas bank accounts; inflated image-rights or marketing agreements with players from companies who happen to be owned by the club's owners; other third-party or agents' payments; - all sorts of secret and creative ways to do it.

Yep. The impact of a salary cap is it basically stops the likes of Mbappe existing, in a financial sense. And so Real (in this example) would just find other ways of paying him.

I agree, but as this sort of abuse is obvious so it should also be obvious to the authorities who should a) close every loophole and b) make it abundently clear to clubs that any "naughties" will be punished to the maximum with points deductions, excessive fines and, ultimately, demotion depending on the extent of the "naughties".

At some point that moves into the territory of fraud. I'm game for keeping tightening the rules until it goes that way and the Police start becoming involved.

All contracts and payments really should go through a third party and be completely transparent to club, player, regulator and league.

All that will happen though is that will hasten the resurrection of the ESL where no such financial limitations will apply.

I guess you could then ban all players and teams involved from UEFA, CONMEBOL etc and FIFA affiliated tournaments and hope that's a deterrent.

It's more about detection and enforcement than anything else.

Unscrupulous clubs and/or their owners will always be able to move money around secretly and off the books. Finding it and proving they did it will always be almost impossible or ridiculously expensive for football authorities.

City have been hit with another charge. This time for throwing a cup final to keep Erik ten Hag in a job.

Erling Haaland ties Owen, Kane and Henry with his eighth Premier League hat-trick. Aguero has the fastest hat-trick 'rate' on this particular list, with a treble every 23 games, which is impressive stuff. Haaland's hat-tricks come on average every 8.6 games.

Even he's embarrassed about it.

Recent results probably show just how good Rodri really is.

I'm glad this happened right before he takes over...it's on the players now! We know* the manager can do it, the ownership and structure has been sorted out, so time for those lazy pcunts to pull their fingers out!

Looking forward to seeing which player is dropped and made to train alone, for completely unrelated reasons of course

City's seven defeats in their last ten games is as many as they had lost in their previous 107.

How/why do the 'wheels fall off' like this? I've posted previously about the weirdness of Liverpool going 64 games unbeaten at Anfield, and then losing six in a row (scoring only once). It's bizarre.

I've been wondering if the manager & players have found out that a big punishment is coming their way, and their motivation has tanked.

- Several key players are aging and may have fallen off a cliff: De Bruyne (33), Walker (34), Gundongan (34), Bernardo Silva (30), Stones (30), Kovacic (30)
- The 115 charges
- Rodri injured
- Variance

After what they achieved last season, what do they have to prove? How do you push yourself to just to do it all again?
