tidus_mi2 Mid Sussex Royal The Athletic reporting that Roger Smee's bid is credible and is not reliant on administration.
Also has significant local backing....
Sounds more credible that he is fronting a consortium. Wonder if the SCL guys might be involved, or would that be a conflict of interest with them being the current shirt/stadium sponsors?
I doubt the EFL have massively tight rules on that and as long as they are only paying fair market value then I don't see it being an issue - they have already bailed the club out on a few occasions. Plus if they were to say only own 15% of the club then they wouldn't need to pass any EFL tests that may flag it as a conflict.
But I don't see how it would be any different than Mike Ashley owning Newcastle and them playing at the Sports Direct stadium.
A local consortium would likely be the dream way out of this shit. A group containing, Smee, SJM, SCL and any other locally successful businessmen would be fantastic - even if just to stabilise the club before a future sale to someone with deeper pockets, who knows what they are doing.
