From Despair To Where? Not great examples.

Andy Robertson was 23 and already a Premier League player when Liverpool signed him.

Olise was one of the best players in the Championship and clearly Premier League standard.

I was thinking in terms of the £9 million that has been mooted, i.e. about the same as Robertson and Olise cost.

Sorry, not having that. There's absolutely no inkling that's what you meant in the original post otherwise you'd have mentioned it. You mention money but only in terms of wages

Snowflake Royal I wonder about Vickers too. Probably young and inexperienced enough for it to be ok. But he's gone from playing semi-regular L1 football, and probably would be playing regularly this season. To playing U21 football, which we know is much less competitive than L1.

But to go from having 50+ professional starts to U21 football is nothing but a backwards step professionally, no matter how good the coaches and young talent around you is. IMO.

And no one seriously thinks Bindon is going to go from L1 to starting for Arsenal, do they...

But you have paid no regard in your posts to the massive jump in earnings that he will get even as just a squad player.
Money would certainly come into his reckoning and why not?.

No I haven't, because I'm very clearly focused on professional development, not earnings. It's blindingly obvious the short term financial gain is greater, there's nothing to discuss there.

In sport there is always the discussion to be had about ambition and development on the pitch and money off the pitch.

If Reading were a leading Championship (and not broke) club there could be an argument for the player to continue his development with us but how things stand at the moment it is a no-brainer and he should go for the money and we will wish him well.

For goodness sake, there are plenty who have not "rotted" in top clubs' reserves and these are the first two to come into my head that haven't rotted.

You are starting to challenge Ian as leading pedant.

Never get a name on a shirt that doesn't have at least 100 appearances!

I like my black away kit from 04 with 'Death' '1' on it.

Never worn the home kit with my surname on that I was given as a gift.

Considering I'm not the only person who questioned your post, have you thought that maybe it was, at best, ambiguous or lacking in clarity? As you helpfully point out, I'm not a mind reader.

Anyway, I sincerely apologise for questioning that a 23 year old signed from another Premier League team was a good example of a young player plucked from the lower leagues. Consider me suitable admonished.

When did pedancy change from being an unnecessary highlighting of a trivial error for no real benefit, to pointing out substantive errors or false comparisons?

If the £9m is true I'd bite their hands off! As long as every penny stays away from Dai.

Love Bindon and he has a lot of potential but there's no guarantees he'll have a flying career.

There's no way that any L1 player is going for £9m - the transfer market just doesn't work that way.

If Arsenal offer £1.5m we'll probably take it.
