traff Not only do Hull now have our most popular manager for years but also managed to avoid the odious toad as their owner.
Assume they get to chose which of our players they would like come the inevitable administration next year.
I do remember, around the early 2000s, the Hull chairman saying that they wanted to copy the Reading model!

Think they're certainly going that way then....

Sells to Hull -> NHunt to take over in the interim -> Selles gets sacked from Hull after getting them relegated -> Selles comes back to Reading.

I think a bit of perspective needs to be applied as to how Saintly Selles has been to us, the club.

Appointed the summer before last off the back of a horrific run at Southampton, fair to say he didn't have any other suitors.

Reading were awful up until the Eastleigh defeat which was a year ago this week.

He was very lucky to not get sacked with us 23rd in the table a year ago.

Out of the 16 months he has been our manager he was awful for 3. He gradually grew into it thereafter.

If being loved at a club requires only being good for 10 months and leaving at the first opportunity offered, one wonders why we still hold up Pardew and McGhee with such destain.

Yes the club is a shambles. He contributed to that shambles for a fair while. Despite having signed some high quality players for this league in his time, including Smith, Knibbs and Wing.

I don't believe results are the only metric here. Also, the fact he had a rocky period isn't that relevant, the fact is he has galvanised this squad and is achieving great results all things considered.

The main metric and point for me is that this period of the club's history is the most crucial part. He's experienced player sales with no notification, he's been lied to numerous times, he's had no heating at training ground, a sale of the training ground (nearly), no food, no away hotel stays, he's saw the Director of Football sacked and in trouble for betting, he's been promised new owners (primarily Couhig who was announcing it everywhere), and it's all been a total let down.

Not to mention failed wages, no budgets, points deductions, HMRC issues, tax issues, pitch invasions.

I can't believe how dismissive some fans are of him leaving to be honest. He's done exceptionally well during all of this, and is leading the new/younger academy players into first team football and getting points on the board. We're 6th with a thread-bare squad, full of 17-18 year olds.

I know it won't be an external replacement, btu the thought of yet another random guy stepping in makes me feel sick. We've had the shit with Ince, Clement, Steve Clarke, Jaap Stam, Paunovic, Gomes, and I just felt for the first time we had a manager with a true connection and spirit amongst the club - all built (ironically) on all of the disruption.

I cannot blame Selles for leaving the club; the last couple of years have been terrible for us, but must have been utterly horrendous for the staff - including the Manager.

He got a squad of young players, free transfers and out of contracts to gel into an exciting, progressive football team who are an absolute pleasure to watch, and we should be grateful for what he gave to us rather than bitter at him for walking away.

I wish him all the best for the future.

I think he has done very well in very difficult circumstances.

But the perspective needed is, he was CLINGING ON one year ago this week.

And now he's gone because he got a better offer.

I'm a realist that anyone in football leaves for a better offer, but I don't have him way up high either for his loyalty.

Despite the threadbare squad it's still got more talent within it than many in the division, this is league 1 after all.

How does the Hull squad compare to ours?
What style do they play?
Do they have any real standout players?
Are they all wizened old pros who might not adapt to his style and be disruptive (see: Carroll, A)?
Which of our players, if any, do we think he'll come back for in the January window?

If we were waiting on good news, this is about the stage it would all go quiet and nothing would happen.

Wing is a certainty, Bindon probably.

Wing not sure, very settled in area as is partner (although I get he's from the north east)

Bindon will go somewhere better for more money, as will Garcia

He'll go to a better club than Hull will Bindon.

Wing is settled here with his family so I can't see that. Knibbs maybe or Campbell but they're hardly upgrades for them.

Selles loved this club, I`m convinced he would have stayed if we got the takeover done, we can only hope that he has enough respect to not break this team up.
I think he would be very happy if we continue our play-off push.

also forewent his wages for a while, so as the ground staff etc. got paid (when they weren’t going to be)

…..anyways

Close the thread, Cardiff have appointed Riza until the end of the season (at least)…they will not be hiring Selles

Loved this club so much he jumped ship at the first opportunity.

(yet) Once again

Let’s us hear his (Selles) reasoning before we cast judgement on his decision

(I feel sure it won’t be the generic “a bigger club with stellar ambitions and ownership” bs)….and is this his “first opportunity”?

Let’s wait a bit

Not judging. Don't blame him at all. Just not having the "he loves the club" just because he stayed in a difficult job for 18 months, while he was still getting paid.

Fair enough, but he did love the club enough to fore-go / delay payment of his own wages to ensure the ground staff got their wages before Christmas last year (when they were threatened with going without)

Again doesn't suggest he loves the club, just shows he's a nice guy.
