Classy message from Ruben. Can't remember McGhee or Pardew doing that.

BBC Berks saying Selles had a release clause permitting him to speak to any interested club.

Not the clubs fault then if he insisted it was included.

You can blame them for many things but not this.

I will blame the club, if it turns out that they told him the club will sell any player they want to in January. I suspect that they wouldn't guarantee not to sell any player, even against his wishes.

Where is this classy message? Can you put it on here as I don't do social media, if that is where it is, please?

Surprised he took the Hull job and didn't hold out for a better club and one who is t so cut throat, if he doesn't get immediate results then they'll sack him and if we still exist next year then they may get relegated into our league as them anyway.

Did a decent job in the end for us with his hands tied from day 1 and gave our youth a chance.

Dai and Pang - fcuk you.

Ideally, Hunt steps up to plate, sense of 'betrayal' coupled with existing good relationships and structures gives squad than extra 10%.

BUT

I think a lot of people are really under-estimating the job Selles has done.
The other day I calculated for Snowflake that he'd have fallen just short of play-offs had the middle and end of season form last year extended over a whole season
This season, he's maintained that form, if not improved it.

In terms of points-per-game, in terms of win percentages, all those metrics, he's just behind the greats but only just (win % of 43.6, Pardew was 48.2, Coppell was 44.7, McDermott 46.1; PPG 1.53 vs 1.68, 1.57, 1,65)*. Everyone else is a solid step behind.
I had few doubts that he would continue to improve and take the squad with him**.

The three or four main negatives are:
*he had an awful start - fine, fair, but he improved. Performances were clearly improving before results did.
*he made the players go to the fans even after defeats - this clearly ended up net-positive when form turned around, helped create a bond between players-fans, possibly helped identify the squad members he wanted out
*he had one plan and stuck with it - maybe. certainly had a naivety about some away games BUT this is a very young and inexperienced squad, better to have one plan communicated effectively and properly.

But, equally, this is football and he's gone.
We move on.
Le roi est mort. Vive le roi.

*why is Pardew ahead of these? because, simply, he never had a bad season. In fact, I think he's the last manager to leave of his own accord. Coppell and McDermott both had struggling PL seasons, Yes. I agree. Stats only show one side of the argument.

**well, if the club continues to exist. Which is ever more doubtful the longer this all drags out for.

I think there's far more chance of him being sacked at Hull within the next year than if he'd stayed at Reading.

The risk at Reading is more the club ceasing to exist. Maybe he knows the players are going to be sold in January if there are any takers, and he doesn't want to carry on with the team ripped apart.

The quest to start and finish two seasons in a row with the same manager continues to elude us.

It's now been 12 years and still counting. Earliest it can now be achieved is May 27. So 15 years.

But at least it’s failing this time for the “right” reasons.

Hmmm he had a release clause in his contract, if it hadn’t been hull it would have been someone else. I mean you are probably right. But even if we didn’t have a shit show, if a big championship club had came in for him in say January he might have gone anyway, even if we were a well run club.

Exactly. It's one thing having to put it into a contract in order to attract a manager, it's another very different thing to create a situation whereby that manager feels he has little option but to look to exercise that clause. I'm pretty sure that Ruben would have stuck with us until at least the end of this season had it not been for all of the lies, broken promises and likelihood of another player fire sale in this coming transfer window.

Hull 1-1 Watford, Hull took the lead in the 82nd minute but Watford managed an 88th minute equaliser.

Selles’ next game is a trip to see Fwank on Saturday.
