stealthpapes *they're stupid
*they wanted to spoil the sale
*they're greedy
*all of the above

makes your pick

I reckon someone else waved a bigger wad of cash at them.

If Couhig's agreed £15m and someone else says we'll offer £20m if exclusivity ends, where's the incentive to agree the deal with Couhig?

This new MP seems to have the bit between her teeth. Who knows what power she really has, but get the feeling she's trying everything she can.

The Chinese one?
I listened to her on BBCRB.....She talks a good game but why do we need a regulator. Isn't that the EFL and EPLs job? Just seems like one more gravy train to me and just as easily corrupted with the money. Why don't they just create an act of Parliament for football? ...Get the right people together, might take a while but a regulator? Just seems pointless.

Sounds like you don't understand how this works.

No regulator means no one to have any oversight or take any action.

Make an act of Parliament for Football? The act is what makes a regulator. What do you expect the Act to do instead?

Get the right people together? That's the regulator.

The FL and FA have no power over private business other than to say play by our rules or you can't be in our thing. That just ends clubs, it doesn't solve anything

Cannot see it anywhere but apologies if this has been posted before:
https://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/news ... ourt-case/
The damages sought amount to more than £12.298 million, of which £12 million is for the loss of 'potential profits'. Other than flogging off players or bits of land, it is difficult to know what would generate sums on that scale. Does this then confirm that underlying the Couhig takeover is the intention to streamline, monetise and (ultimately) simply make a quick buck?

I've absolutely no idea. But I am sick, tired, exhausted and depressed at our club continually being used by rich and wealthy, greedy businessmen and women to make a bit of cash. Or to gamble and lose.

It seems too much to ask for many clubs, ours included, to just get someone with some genuine intentions and integrity.

So sick of this saga and sick of football in general. The greed, the focus on all the wealth, the likes of the "big 4" continually dominating and dictating how the rest of football behaves, whining about fixture congestion, whilst also doing worldwide tours and leaving 20 other amazing players on the bench/reserves.

Football quite honestly can oxf*rd right off at this point.

No. These sorts of things often have ridiculous size claims to try to force a settlement on a more realistic compromise.

M&A Murmurs

We have covered Reading’s on-off-on-off takeover saga since the first FootBiz newsletter, and while things are still currently off there has been some news in the form of Rob Couhig’s legal claim against Dai Yongge.

The paperwork itself is Redwood (Couhig’s vehicle) vs Renhe (Dai’s vehicle) and one of the principal claims is that Renhe offered Reading for sale to (and entered into negotiations with) other parties while Redwood were under a period of legal exclusivity.

In what may prove a costly mistake, Renhe’s own sales materials (which you’d have to assume Redwood have got their hands on) describe the opportunity to “acquire the club for a fraction of its worth”.

Implicit in that line is the acknowledgement that Reading is worth far more, and with Redwood claiming their likelihood of acquiring the club was 50% (or higher) they are suing Renhe for damages in the region of £24m, which they calculate as 50% of potential financial returns according to their model.

Perhaps if this goes badly for Dai it may aid the sales process, but this process has become one that is impossible to second-guess. We will follow the legal action.

If thats true, that is the most stupid thing I have ever read in the context of one Party selling to another Party; obviously, when you are selling you do everything to inflate the value of whatever it is you are selling, be it a house, a car or a football team. Shockingly amateur behaviour; schoolboy error doesn't begin to cover it!

Don’t paint all football with the same brush. Outside the top levels there are lots of clubs that are owned by the fans (lots more than the PR savvy ones like FC United who get all the coverage !). There will almost certainly be a fairly decent non league club near you playing good football whilst being a genuine community club. Places where players drink with the members after a game, where you can watch the game with a beer in hand and an opposition supporter stood next to you. Sometimes you’ll spot a familiar name on the team sheet (Lita, Alf and Curo are or have been playing at non league level as is Josh Barrett, Aron Kuhl, Jahmari Clark and plenty of other ex Royals.
It’s worth dipping a toe into non league, it might rekindle your love of the game.

Not sure that makes sense. Houses are often marketed as being ‘recently reduced from…..’ and a decent estate agent won’t inflate the price beyond what they know they can sell it for. Of course one tactic is to make something look more valuable than it is so people are drawn in by what looks like a bargain price even though what they end up paying is actually more than it’s true value. We are bombarded by adverts offering something ‘worth’ £50 but available for a limited time for ‘just’ £9.99.
In general though the sale process does seem to be an utter shambles and had they thought of employing a schoolboy to run it we may be in a better position than we are now.

Lets say he is incapacitated in some way - either through illness, arrest or general disappearance - where would that leave any sale process? Can the club be sold if he is unavailable to complete the documentation? Is there a legal mechanism to force the sale esp if he is incarcerated either at home or in a Chinese prison?

Or does that essentially sign our death warrant?

Yeah, surely what you actually do is try to get the highest price possible, whilst implying how cheap that price is. But I've never worked in sales.

Without legal intervention of some sort, I expect the latter.

Unless he has some sort of Power of Attorney already set up for him, with his sister or Pang for example

I’d imagine his assets would be seized by somebody or other. Prob the Chinese govt

It’s all such a tiresome mess. It might make a great documentary one day but utterly sick of the whole thing at the moment
