Presume he was told that his mission, should he choose to accept it, was to keep the club up and that if he failed then he would be expatriated within 5 days.

Nigel Adkins, Ian Branfoot and Lawrie McMenemy are available if they fancy trying restore some of their good old days.

But it’ll be the next young and innocent continental flavour of the month that no-one’s heard of.

Could do worse than giving Selles a crack at the Championship

Chris Gunter as assistant.

Anyway, their draw at home to Oxford essentially dooms them as with their GD they will need 4 points from the last two whilst hoping Derby don't pick up another point.

Remaining games for the bottom 8 teams in what is division 2

25 April
Stoke City (50 pts) v Sheffield United

26 April
Luton Town (46 pts) v Coventry City (12.30)
Cardiff City (43 pts) v West Bromwich Albion
Hull City (48 pts) v Derby County (46 pts)
Oxford United (49 pts) v Sunderland
Preston North End (49 pts) v Plymouth Argyle (43 pts)

03 May (all at 12.30)

Bristol City v Preston North End
Derby County v Stoke City
Norwich City v Cardiff City
Plymouth Argyle v Leeds United
Portsmouth v Hull City
Swansea City v Oxford United
West Bromwich Albion v Luton Town

Personally think Plymouth and Cardiff (about time!) are doomed but the fight to avoid 3rd place could get very entertaining - actually think if Luton could win one of their remaining games then Oxford might be the ones that fall through the trap door at the end of the day.

Norwich have sacked their manager - Johannes Hoff Thorup (no, me neither!) - today, with Jack Wilshere in interim charge; I guess all those teams with failed play-off ambitions are going to clear the decks now - I expect Bolton and Huddersfield to part with their managers shortly.

Don't think he was sacked per se, think its the infamous mutually agreed departure.
