Reading's £3.5m bid for Rennes defender John Mensah has been rejected by the French club. (The Times)

G'La Im sure he'll be in a Reading shirt come next week. Mensah has apparently stated that he wants to leave and join Reading. It seems as if Rennes have had no other offers (as they hoped) to get into a bidding war. They've turned down our first offer in the hope to get something more out of us.

Ian Royal they may have tried to get us to up ur bid with no one else coming in to for him. in which case theonly thing we will do is either, wait a week and make the same offer and see if they give in ad take it, or forget about him and go elsewhere.
Rennes won't realise that by rejecting our offer they've lost any chance to sell this summer and come and ask us if we still want him for £3.5M they' just keep him instead.

Rennes don't want to sell him, having only just signed him (and not being Leeds). I'm sure they'll take a bid that is well above their estimation of his value, but we aren't going to make that, I'm sure.

I'm wondering if this is a similar scenario to Horsfield going to Sheff Utd. Rennes had him on loan originally and have since signed him permanently. Although it sounds like they don't want to get rid of him ala Horsfield at Utd, it may be that they don't see it as only having just signed him this year as the deal was struck some time ago.
I'm undecided if there is anything left in this one now. I think it may have been resolved by now if we are to get him, but then on the other hand some of these transfer sound like a lot of hard work and to'ing and fro'ing. Just like Lita last year, and Convey the year before, if we do finally get our man all credit to Coppell and Hammond for sticking to it and seeing the job through.
