moo What's the parking like at Villa? Is it cheap and plenty of it?

I might be going alone.

almost non existent....if you get there early you may be lucky to find some street parking

the ground is amusing place to find too....with dreadful sign posting and one way system.....expect to see the ground a mile away and spend alot of time going round in circles! in the end we didnt bother following the signs, some of which I suspect some local joker had moved to point the wrong way!

It's mostly free and not all that plentyful unless you get there early. Street parking is the order of the day, it's not the best of areas either. Loads of resident only areas and the young local residents delight in breaking windows. If you're parking close to the ground I would strongly advise you don't have anything that id's your car as an away supporters.

Like most places in that part of the world if you don't want to stand out from a crowd ensure your knuckles a dragging along the ground, your mouth is hanging open (visible dribble a definate benifit) and smell like a public convieniance.

and you talk like a dumb idiot too!

I think i took the metro to the nearest stop to the ground when we played them in the cup a few seasons back.

Apart from the dodgy result, the only other thing i remember is the fact that the pies were so hot you could not eat them.

Last couple of times we've been to Villa I parked in a car park provided by the local scouts, about 10 minutes walk away.

Before that I parked up in the local sidestreets and had the usual 5-year old scrote with the "look after yer car, mister?". I gave him the required fiver and all was fine.

Last time we were there we parked in an Irish club just off the Aston Express way, 10 mins from the ground.
Cheap to park and access the the Irish club, with cheap beer as well.

Like West Brom when you come off the M5 , them old Brummies seem to be falling over each other to get your money to park in their car parks.

http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/town/park/yfh45/aston.htm Where To Drink?

There are a number of pubs in the vicinity of Villa Park, but most of them on match days are either members only or have bouncers on the door. However, Dave Cooper recommends the following for away fans; 'The Cap and Gown (formerly The Witton Arms), is not a bad pub, to which half the pub is given to away fans (there is even a separate entrance for visiting fans). It is only two minutes walk from the away entrance, right on Witton Island, however it does charge £2 per person to gain entry. Otherwise there is the Harriers, which is on Broadway, near to the school of the same name. It is ten minutes walk from the ground and you can usually find street parking in this area'. If you arrive a bit earlier then you may wish to visit the historic Barton Arms, located about a 15 minute walk away on High Street Aston (A34). This Grade II listed building, is one of Birmingham's finest pubs, with superb Victorian decor, serving Oakham ales and Thai food is also on offer. It was awarded the Birmingham CAMRA pub of the year award for 2004. Please note that alcohol is not available in the away end.

Where are peeps tending to go then? It'd be nice to all have a drink beforehand, then march up to the away stand together! :D

Update for everyone:

My housemate (PorkyRFC) phoned up today to get his Villa ticket - apparently sold just over 1,000 out of the 2,700 (I think) allocation so no panic for tickets just yet!

Also, on the travel news front - the M6 is being dug up and resurfaced from junction 8 (M5) down to 6 (A38 - Villa Park junction) - I think they're still on the southbound side at the moment but the whole of the east side of the city's in chaos because of it so allow additional travel time coming up - especially mid week!

I was on it yesterday.

The exit for the Aston Expressway at junction 6 was closed northbound for resurfacing.

If that's still the case in a couple of weeks, it could be great fun.

Queued for 30 minutes this morning in ticket office got 4 for villa game.

Would have been quicker if it wasn't for some mum and her plastic fan son in a chelsea shirt complaining he only had 50 points on his membership card
