I am posotive were going to win by one or two goals to nil. I go and watch Boro with my father-in-law and they are the laziest team I have ever seen. From what I saw last season we have nothing to worry about. If we keep playing like we have done so far from the end of last season to pre season they wont be able to cope with our attack and Yakubu and Viduka cant be bothered unless they are playing Chelsea or United!

I predict that Royal Fleet will be beside himself with actually seeing the Royals playing top flight football.

I predict the East Stand will find it's voice and have a splendid day in the sun.

I predict that Reading will win 2-0

Doyle getting them both, being the first of his 20 goal, premiership-status saving haul.

2 - 0 Royals. Lita & Seol.

If we can't get a full house for this, we don't deserve Premier status.

Yes because it's the crowd that is important in football.

Anyway 2-1 Convey and Sonko.

Downing got a dead leg against Greece according to their offical site - so may not play.....

1-0 to Reading if that turns out to be the case

Yakubu is one of the most unde-rated strikers in the league, and would score even more than he does (about 15 last year I think) if he was playing for a better side. Viduka is strong, and Sonko's presence won't worry him.

We must not under-estimate Middlesbrough coming forward.

Reading 3 Boro 2

Royals to edge a real humdinger of a contest. As long as the Rs continue to attack from start to finish we will just about edge it. Boro will hit us with two moments of class, but it will be the Royals that dominate the possession and control the game. Kitson, Doyle and a last minute Super Stevie Sidwell pile driver to secure the points!

Man of the Match: Sidwell

Attendance: 200 short of a full house.

Reading 0 Boro 1. Ref mistake 94th minute in a game with no stoppages and in the resulting penalty, Kitson thumps it so hard, it hits the crossbar and bounces back past everyone past Hahnemann into an empty net. Own goal.
We was robbed.

Attendance 21,732 and a further 77 queuing outside to get in.

Bloody hell. Boro must be bad. the bookies even had us as underdogs against Wolves last season when we were in the middle of our run.

readingbedding Now the pre-season matches are out of the way...

It's the real deal now.

Reading's first match in the Premiership, absolutley cannot wait for it all to start and a week from now we'll know if our first game gives us 3 points, 1 point or none.

I'm predicting 2-1 to the Royals.

Doyle and Sidwell.

Full House.

being the sort of chap to hold a grudge i havent forgiven them (hignett was it?) for cheating us out of the cup at elm park, albeit aided by some woeful refereeing. so i would like a totally unjust win against the run of play with an awful penalty decision going our way in the last minute :-)

Yeah I was there, it was the quarter-final of the League Cup and we were robbed.

That's football

KKK whats that all about then? white knight are you?:

After being systematically written off by the talking heads on TV and in the press, nice to see this from the Sporting Life:

Sporting Life Reading v Middlesbrough

There's plenty to like about Reading heading into their first season in the Premiership. They won the Championship with a record 106 point tally, have a bright and intelligent manager in Steve Coppell, a settled squad which looks more than capable of holding its own in the top flight and a positive attitude which should pay dividends. An encouraging pre-season has added to the confidence and this match provides them with a decent opportunity to get off to a winning start. For Boro are desperately short on experience - both in terms of rookie manager Gareth Southgate and a young squad. Julio Arca is the only new signing and it's got to be a real worry that Boro have struggled badly in their pre-season games which means the 6/4 about a home win has to be the advice.

Verdict: Reading 2 Middlesbrough 0

As Steve Coppell always says, the bookies make money for a reason. I'll take that score: Kitson (2)
