Doing a bit of googling and just discovered that Mr Halsey has the all time record for the earliest sending off. The lucky recipient was none another than portly Sheffield wednesday keeper Kevin Pressman who Halsey deemed to have handled the ball outside his area after 13 seconds at Wolves.

Pressman (below) tried to protest that he had got his fat fingers to it but Halsey was having none of it and both of them can look forward to being featured in many a tiresome football trivia question asked by anorak wearing smart Alecs for years to come.However on close inspection it would seem that Pressman may have been hard done by an improbably suntanned Halsey. Sky Sports' reverse angle replay seemed to show that the ball might well of hit his chest and even guest pundit Dave Bassett had to admit that "...to be fair its looked to have hit him in the chest...".

I agree Halsey is one of the more Humanoid of match officials who actually seems to enjoy his work unlike the robocop Bennett or Barry Knightmare who would have been a complete banker for a miserable afternoons fare.

It seems the referee assessor looks more at the technical side of the refs performance whereas the match delegate who tend to be ex-managers and ex-players write a report. Often the delegate will go into the referee's room at the end of the game, or rather after the so-called 30 minutes cooling off period, and talk to the referee. A kind of go between role between the manager/club and the match officiating role.

Credit where credits due, that was one of the best refereeing performances I've seen at a Reading game, never card happy, always looking to let the game flow, always looking to the linesman for a decision when they where better placed and common sense a plenty.

agreed, everytime our strikers went for the ball they were beig pulled about. however this is the premiership and alot more competitive.

we need to do weight training as players got muscled off the ball way to easy
