Another Stat - North Stand Lucky Charm

by Tony Le Mesmer » 22 Aug 2006 17:23

The last opposition player to score a league goal in front of the North Stand was Andy Johnson.

If it remains unbreached for the Man City game that will be a whole calender year

I always get worried when we don't begin the match facing the South Stand, I dont know why! Might be something to do with the shocking performance against Sheff Utd in December 2002, when they outclassed us, shooting the wrong way.

Top stat that.

Anyone know why we always seem to shoot south in the first half on most occasions?

I'm the same, it just seems strange to be starting that way round!

Most clubs play towards their "own" end in the 2nd half. Since the South Stand has been split, there are no plenty of Royals in the South too but a) there are more in the North and b) the custom is already fixed.

All of the people that sit round me get very tetchy when we get reversed. I think it's a psychological thing - the oppo captain has gone against our way, and has got one over on us early.

As an East stand regular, watching the Royals on TV confuses the hell out of me. Saw Lita's goal on MoTD and wondered why the North Stand were so quiet.

But didn't Boro kick-off which suggested we won the toss and presumably chose the end we wanted?

I declare the North Stand stat to be one of the greatest ever, and possibly a world record.

I'm pretty sure we kicked off because the ball went back to Shorey and he spooned it out, which was symptomatic of our nervous start.
