UNder 18's vs United....

by On the Pool Table » 27 Aug 2006 20:03

Have just seen the highlights on MUTV from yesterday's game. Reading won 2-1.

They competed well and were good value for their win. Seemed to be quite a few larger lads playing for Reading and they were much more physical than United throughout. 8 of the team have already played reserve team football and that showed as well against an inexperienced united.

James Henry looked good and showed he has fully recovered from his injury. A good result.

The standard of play of our young players generally has stepped up several levels and they are the future of this club.

Time will come when we shall not have so many posts asking for money to be found for Premiership standard players because the treasure will be found from within.

It may well be that some of this treasure is available now. I see that one of Villa's players on Wed. was from their youth team. I think it would be interesting to see how one or two of our young players could do when we realise how Shane Long performed in his first game for the first team when not many people expected much, and some people who take no interest in any but the first team had never heard of him.

This is encouraging and it wouldn't surprise me if James Henry was thrust into the first team squad very soon indeed. Pearce also looks good.

One? How about 7.

Ridgewell
Samuel
Moore
Davis
Barry (via Brighton though)
Agbonlahor

and the sub Whittingham and if you want to go back a bit further Lee Hendrie as well.

Does this mean you think Long played well or not very well ?

I must say I would rather have seen him go out on loan this year to give him some experience.
