Arch "Blackwell added: "I've offered Glen a contract, but I think his mum and dad want to get involved and his daughter and sister, so we'll see. He's done well and we've put in an offer that we think is genuinely worth taking into consideration."

I didn't say he'd turned them down. And I didn't mention wages. On Smith, the clubs agreed a handsome fee and the player did not come to personal terms. My only point is, primarily aimed at howser, that this is not some Reading thing where we're too cheap to sign the players we need.

So basically they are not have problems landing their targets due to the terms they have offered as you previously wrote. They could offer Tommy Smith more than he is on at Watford and he still won't go there. As for Little there is nothing in Blackwell's comments to suggest Little isn't happy with the terms offered. I would guess Little has an issue with moving his family north for what could be his last contract. Part of his reason for moving to us was because he wanted to be back down south near where he comes from.

Spin it how you like, if you want Reading to look bad. There's nothing I can do about that.

I'm not spinning anything. I was just wondering what players you were referring to when you said that Sheffield United were having trouble landing their targets because of the terms they're offering. It now appears that you just made it up.

Tommy Smith played for Watford over the weekend, scoring one and creating another in their 3-2 win over Parma. The more I think about it the more I want him at the club, it's a shame but it appears that negotiations aren't getting anywhere.

From what I hear, we have increased our initial offer and that was some weeks back. I don't know who Get Reading's sources are, but saying we haven't gone back with an improved offer is complete nonsense. We have apparently increased to £1.2m upfront and a little more if we won promotion, thought to be around another £250k. This was dismissed out of hand by the ever awkward Mr Russo. I'm hearing now that we have put our foot down and said take it or leave it, and we'll wait until January when Smith's value should decrease even further with 6 months left on his contract at that point. Watford are in no rush to sell with the imminent departure of Tamas Priskin, apparently to Ipswich for seven figures.

I think the focus is on the Hunt/Nugent swap.

I'd forgotten all about that rumour with all the others lately.

I'd take Priskin too

Meanwhile we still could do with an experienced striker/attacking midfielder from somewhere.

Can't see the Nugent thing ever happening as we'd never pay the wages he'd want even if he was willing to drop out of the Premiership.

A loan for 6 months perhaps...?

Personally I think I'd prefer Nugent to Smith, much more of a wow factor there ....

Nugent would be a much better deal and anything below the reported £30k a week that Hunt is on
would be a saving.

This makes sense to me. Why should we throw a lot of money at someone who will be out of contract in 12 months time? If TS is so keen to come here then he will run down his contract and join us on a free - assuming that we still want him.

I would say this is completely dead in the water now as Watford have agreed a fee with Ipswich to sell Tamas Priskin for £1.5 million

Likely but not definite. Rodgers still seemed keen but coy on SSN yesterday.

Having watched yesterday, I'm not 100% convinced he's the sort of player we should be after. We need a strong target man with a lethel finish. I'm not sure Tommy would offer this for us.

goalscoring wide player is an alternative that Rodgers might want more, having both Long and Nhunt for the lone role. With Church seemingly fairly well favoured too.

intersteing that Smith was on the left in the solitary clip I saw on the Beeb last night.

Left sided winger would be prime. Kebe's good moments do not outweigh the wayward passes and general bambi on ice potential. Smith to play on the left and then an Adebola type striker would be perfect in my opinion.

What TS would be able to bring would be consistency. Kebe is our very own Forrest Gump. Left wingers are like a box of chocolates...
