Mills returned to training with the rest of Reading’s first team this morning, but left the group to travel to the East Midlands for talks.

Awkward.

And excellent news that it is early in the pre-season and not the arse end of August. Gives us time to do what we need to do.

Mills is definitely from Swindon as my brother played football with 2 of his brothers.

There is actually at least 5 of the Mills family that have all played pro football at some level even their cousin Leigh Mills was once on Spurs's books.

I certainly would not want to go into the season with Morrison as one of our first choice centre backs. Potential he may have but he could not get a game when he went on loan to Huddersfield and if you ask any Swindon fans they were not bothered to see him go, in fact they rated their other centre back Cuthbert as the better player. I see another season in the reserves and maybe the odd appereance here and there barring any injuries.

I get the feeling we'll be seeing a lot of Pearce this season but you can't just expect Morrison to step up. We are naked defensively... Even with those 2, we have no cover albeit Bryn and Harte. It's embarrassing, sorry.

With Mills, Khish and Ivar gone (in order of damage done), we need to buy and our board will know this. To even suggest we won't reinvest is insane, we sort of need to otherwise we will suffer. There were times last season we all know of, where we struggled massively at the back as it is, but without Mills I can only see us getting hammered. No I'm not Mills' greatest fan, but at the same time I do think he is/was our best defender, alas age may have the cruel hand over potential in that fact.

End of the day, it is the 7th of July, no need to go and do a Tommy Burns, we have time to assess and act, have faith in the king of scouting that is Brian.

£5M!!!

:D

Nicky Hammond has just pulled off yet another masterstroke in the transfer market!

A £3M profit for a player who played 70 times for us in 2 seasons? Yes please!!

Thank you very much for everything Matt and all the best for the rest of your career.

Personally i would rather us get in a centre back on loan for the season, than spend money on one.......give Morrison time to adapt, as for all we know he could be the answer.

Yeah maybe, I've heard good things about Morrison if I'm honest, so.

Interesting hearing some people post about Bertrand in this thread. He made the Chelsea bench (made the odd app) in the latter of the season though, is there any hope in hell? If he'd come down a league he would be a fecking saviour at left back for us.

Tim Dellor has said on BBC Berks (he is at the training ground and has spoken to McD) that the money will not be made available to buy players as it is already ear-marked to fill this seasons black hole in the finances.

No fan of Mills am I - he is a thug and a clown of a footballer - but this says all you need to know about the club's ambition to get abck into the Premier League, selling their captain to a (supposed) promotion rival in the same division.

Who says long is on his way? Surely this transfer really gives us the chance to stand firm to get the 7 mill we want for long and if no one coughs up then, he doesn't move as we won't need the cash thanks to King power!

LOL.

If he's such a clown surely it's a good thing that we are selling him to a rival?

You can't have it both ways.

A bit more to it than that I think Floyd.

Mills insisted that he was allowed to talk to Leicester.

Clearly they have turned his head with a pot of gold and all we could really do was get as much as we possibly could for him.

soggy biscuit
Colin Cheeselog Best. News. Ever.

My football watching will be infinitely more enjoyable without an overrated utter cnut playing for us next season.

Couldn't agree more C-Log

Which of our centre backs will step up now and replace him by diving lots and hoofing it into the crowd every 10 minutes?

Oh come on now you're exaggerating, he didn't hoof it into the crowd every 10 minutes.........closer to every 15 minutes I reckon

So is the insinuation there that we start each summer which a transfer budget of say -£5m, therefore in order to have £2m to spend we need to recoup £7m.

Pretty depressing!
