No news there, taken bit from the EP, turned it into a nothing story.

Coppell is not having much of a holiday week, in on Monday, and in again today, his break will be after the announcement, later today.

I also expect an official list of players being released, and those available to leave if the right offers come in.

As for going at the end of next season, Coppell would no way make that decision now, very shoddy journalism.

Southbank Old Boy
rhroyal This is great news. It's also good when you can spend a long time preparing for your next manager and looking into candidates instead of having to make a rushed, panic decision.

The last thing we want is a dead man walking. Preparing for a manager suddenly not being there and having some idea of where you want to go next is good. Having a manager who the club and the players know is leaving at the end of the season is a disaster waiting to happen.

Look what happened to United and Newcastle, and Spurs this season I guess, to see the effect it has when players know the manager is on his way soon.

Agreed. To a certain extent I think we might have suffered from that this season, following SC's talk earlier in the season about his need for a regular break from the game.

It's also pretty disastrous when a Chairman announces that he wants out!!

The EP, talking about Jamie Butler, The lad, who grew up a stone’s throw from Elm Park

WTF has that got to do with Coppell staying or going? - anyway ButLOLer would have been too young to go to Elm Park

8 years old (max) at the time of the Norwich game

LOL

Why would 8 years old have been too young to go to Elm Park?

My son saw his first game there at the age of 5! He was also at the Norwich game, aged 6.

Of course.
The Chairman wanting to sell and the Manager talking about a break means that the players lost form and confidence.

How perceptive.

if he stays this season and sets us up for the prem, and and gives the club time to scout out new management, then his obligation to us will be more than done, and i will doff my cap to him as he walks out of our door

Not at all.

However, this generation of Reading fans know nothing but promotions and the Premiership. A relegation or two will test their support and let them know what supporting a club is all about.

When things go bad, 18 year old kids are not who decent reporters go to in order to fill a couple of column inches, especially one that looks like a chubby nonce.

MiniS&R2 is now 6. He keeps asking me, every day when I pick him up from school, if Mr Coppell will be staying.

He has 22 grounds "under his belt" already, so 8 was plenty old enough to be at football in reply to the earlier post.

Try it in a real business and see what it does for employee morale and performance! (assuming both aren't despised by the employees, of course!).

My first game at EP I was 6, my eldest girls first games were 8 and 6 and my youngest has been 3 times and her first game was at just 3 and she loves it.

Complete rubbish, just a very lame excuse

How come the wheels didn't fall off at Liverpool when Shankly announced his retirement?

We went down because:
'We were nowhere near the team we were the season before'
'We were standing still, while other people were improving'

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but on Radio 210 they reported this morning that Coppell has flown off on holiday. Without wishing to put a dampener on anything, could this mean that he's flown off somewhere before an announcement is made that he's not staying, so that he doesn't cop any flak (excuse the little pun)?

Apoligies iof posted somewhere but this is interesting for two reasons

1) looks like a decision is being made at the board meeting today so we'll probably hear more later this afternoon

2) Check out Dillons reaction to the Steve dont leave gathering on tuesday - really good!
