Gunny Fishcake Typical Reading FC appointment , on the cheap , no imagination , ex employee , boring and uninspiring ....bollox basically .

Typical Reading FC appointment eh?

Please explain the appointments then of Porterfield, Burns and Coppell? And is £1m on the cheap???

Some people are never satisfied.

I will go on record here and now by stating that I am more than comfortable with the appointment. I am actually quite excited about what the future holds.

Does this mean that we hve a new club song:

Peters and Lee - Welcome Home

Still Hate Futcher! Plus Rodgers at least told Watford's Chairman he'd become interested in the Reading job - McGhee told Madjeski he was staying then was gone within hours.

Hmmmm, there I'm a little worried. He said publicly that he was 100% committed to Watford. Then days later, he tells the Watford board he wants to talk to us.

Well his comments came straight after the departure of SC when the media were trying to get their noses in front ,so it wasnt only days before but a good few weeks and he hadnt even been offered the job/interview then.So unless he had a mystic meg moment it would have been a very foolish thing to claim an interest in the post at such an early stage.

Good news, I really like what Rodgers brings to the table. Really looking forward to see how he uses Marek in particular.

I may be weird.

I may be thick.

Just being honest with my *current* feelings though.

But as the first one to stick my neck out in defence of Parj when most of you wanted him out (and took heaps of criticism for it), and the first one to stick my neck out to say Coppell would go down as a great before he even joined (and took heaps of criticism for it again), proving to be right and humiliating my tormentors into silence twice in a row, I sincerely hope it's a case of "third time UNlucky" for me.

How a man who only has a record of 27 games (and even then not a hugely glorious one at all other than a jump of 6 positions with an ex-Prem squad in a poor Championship) is the answer to what is arguably the most important appointment in our history I don't yet understand.

But don't worry I'm not like some people here (no names need to be mentioned) who'll spout out the same embarrassing bullsh*t in arrogant defiance and will never admit to being wrong I often change my opinion as soon as it seems it's rubbish and I'm definitely open to being convinced about BR... and to be fair if it's a JM/NH/Howe appointment it's going to be good as more often than not these guys have got it right. And hey... even if I'm not convinced, I won't emulate the tosspots of the board by being negative all the time and will back the guy anyway, because he's our top man and will need our support through thick and thin.

The king is dead, long live the king!

That's a good point. That should ease our consciences.

I know there's only a few of them and you can't please all the people all the time and I should just accept that but I really can't get my head around this sort of reaction. Bizarre.

I am far more excited about this appointment than Pardew or Coppell. This guy is going places, quickly; I just hope we can keep pace with his development and ambition.

PS 2WW1WC, I'm sure Spacey's Thicky was directed at me not you...!!

Still Hate Futcher! It's not the same thing at all. Watford let us talk to their manager when we offered enough to trigger his get out clause. West Ham's Pardew bid was blocked but Brooking basically said, "Fcuk 'em we'll have him anyway". Plus Rodgers at least told Watford's Chairman he'd become interested in the Reading job - McGhee told Madjeski he was staying then was gone within hours.

The Rodgers situation definatley has parallels with McGhee's departure wrather than Pardews.

Rodgers has neither said nor done anything wrong or misleading, whatever Watford might suggest. He WAS committed to them, then when a potentially better offer came along he asked permission to talk about it. He didn't resign, he let the clubs sort out a compensation package first and then left, or was asked to leave, the club.

Indeed, I meant it as a joke, but maybe I should be directing it at the likes of FineRain and Gunny Fishcake.

Hardly - there has been no suggestion that Rodgers was offered the job at RFC then decided to stay at Watford, shook hands on it, only to change his mind a few hours later, has there?

FiNeRaIn Disgusted...watford show loyalty to appoint an unknown manager. A club of a similar size comes along and he jumps ship.

Madejski, howe and hammond did you forget the pardew saga?

If it was ferguson it wouldn't have been as disrespectful. We are a much bigger club and he's rewarded them with two promotions.
Watford are in the same division with a similar fanbase and he's done fvck all to repay their appointment.

Shocking.

exactly the same thing happened to each club
one said we could talk
the other said we couldnt

their faux outrage is a little disengenuous IMO

Permission was sought to speak to the manager. This was granted.
Rodgers stated his desire to stay with Watford. Now he's Reading manager.

That looks pretty reasonable to me. Of course, I understand you're splitting hairs.

Move step three to the start and you have the events in the correct order.

I've got to say how mightily unimpressed I've been by our official site today. Watford have quotes from Brendan and even clarification as to what has happened. Reading have a statement which can be written on the back of a stamp.

On Watford site. In reference to RR's post:

WATFORD FC regret to announce the departure of manager Brendan Rodgers to Championship Club Reading, he leaves his position after only seven months in charge at Vicarage Road.
Following contact from Reading on Friday requesting permission to talk to Rodgers, Watford Chairman Jimmy Russo initially rebuffed this approach. Then over the weekend Rodgers expressed his desire to have the opportunity to speak to the Berkshire based outfit.
Russo said: "Following speculation over the Reading vacancy I had spoken to Brendan only last week and he had assured me that he was 100% committed to Watford FC and our plan for the future.

HTH.
