Do you think Adam can perform well enough to keep Hahnemann out of the team once he is fit?

Well the time has come to decide who do you want between the sticks now. USA is back and ready for the squad. I think that all the doubters should have been converted by now...

Personally I think that Feds distribution is spot on. I can't fault it. It's much better than USAs
Feds claiming of the ball from corners/crosses is much better than USAs
Shot stopping; there hasn't been that much that Fed has had to do really so hard to compare. He's made some good saves don't get me wrong
Positioning - I think that USAs positioning is better than Feds (not that Feds positioning is awful mind)

For me its a no brainer. Feds all the way if only for his quick and accurate release of players, especially pin point kicks to the strikers.

I still feel Hahnemann is the better goalkeeper, I feel a bit more secure with him in BUT Federici although not really had masses to do has done everything required and has got better with every passing week. The one thing that he is better than Hahnemann at is his kicking, it really is superb. Coppell always says that posession is 9/10ths of the law and under those guidelines, Federici has the shirt and should continue. He will as well.

Really? What about catching/claiming the ball? I have to admit that Hahnemann scares me when he goes to claim/catch in a crowded area

No problems with Hahners in that part of his game for me. He's made a couple of mistakes down the years but so does every keeper. He's pretty reliable in all aspects especially at this level, even in the Premiership he had 2 good seasons.

Now that Hahnemann has played a full 90 minutes, it puts more pressure on Federici than before.
The question is: can he cope with the pressure of beefcake breathing down his neck?

Its also an area where experience should lead to significant improvement - you'd expect USA's to be better.

He came in, removed a lot of the doubts and adds an attacking dimension in his kicking.

Its his shirt, until he dies or someone better comes along

Fed has been great but the goalie position is (obviously) unique and might not be treated in the traditional "he has the shirt until he makes a mistake" way that outfield players are. Marcus is the club's number 1, whether people like that or not, so now that he is fit does Coppell automatically put him back in as in essence he must be better than Fed? I think it would be hars on our Aussie but not completely surprising if Marcus comes back in on Saturday. having said that, he should come back better than ever as he'll know that he can be dropped if he has a rick. Upshot would be that I have no idea what Coppell will do but I'm sure he'll make the right decision.

I just liked the idea of Micheal Ironside playing Coppell, tbh.

I am sorry but i honestly cant remeber a mistake Fed has made since he came in apart from 2 wayward kicks !!! His distribution is exceptional and he just seems more alert than USA. ALthough he has not really been called into action on many occasions he is a very competent GK. USA now back and fully fit will only make Fed perform better IMO

From the "Team for Forest" thread:

The 17 Bus Time for Marcus to return, i think the players are playing too deep with Fed in goal, and that is because he does not command like marcus does. Also Marcus is a team leader, go check how we have done since marcus got injured. Sorry fed, your time is up.

thats a bit harsh considering we hadnt conceded a goal in 3 games until bristol. i bet if we had won you wouldnt be calling for marcus to return. fed has done really well since he's come in in terms of individual performances.

im no snowball but here goes....

since fed has gone in goal from the norwich game. hes played 11 conceded 9.
however, against cardiff in the cup reading fielded an entirely different back 4 (murty, bikey, pearce and kelly). then home to wolves kelly and pearce came in, after that game, rosenior came back in and the other 3 have remained the same. so in the 11 games the back four have changed 3 times using 5 different players ,if you include gunnarsson's sub appearance, from the usual back 4, so thats 9 different players in total.

when hahnemann has played. hes played 21 games and conceded 21.
with the back four only changing 3 times with rosenior, bikey, pearce, doobs, stretch, s.hunt and ingi being used. and when they have changed its been only one player being changed.

so to summarise, fed has been OUTSTANDING considering the changes hes had to the back four in front of him so far. so get off his back and give him the support he deserves

Another consideration: in Fed's 11 games since MH's injury, we've scored 12 (including the Wolves og). In MH's 21 games we've scored 45 or so goals (I lost count and don't want to go back). So, are we playing back too far to help cover for Fed as 17 Bus implies? I think there is a good argument for that. If so, maybe we bring MH back and open the game up a little more.

Personally, I would like to see more aggressive and attacking play in front of Fed to see how he copes.

Are we dropping back to cover Feds or the relatively slow CB pair of Pearce and Doobs?

Bring Bikey back

Good point since we stopped scoring when Pearce came in for Ingi. I'd like to see Bikey and Pearce, but Pearce is the one most likely to be dropped.

His distribution is top class. He will only improve as he plays more matches.

the stats dont lie. we havent scored alot recently. BUT. we've played wolves, a preston bus parked in front of the goal, qpr, swansea, cardiff, in form bristol and a central midfield that is getting overrun, two wingers that havent been consistant, doyle and lita who dont click. now just think for a minute...if the central midfield was playing well and gettin the ball wide to wingers that had an end product which ended up on the boot of a confident doyle and n.hunt...we have the early season form of 2008! goals galore. to say fed is partly the reason is ludacris and stupid.

when marcus was recovering 3/4 weeks when we still werent performing. NO-ONE, was calling for usa or even mikkel anderson to play because "we're playing too deep".

when a team isnt scoring the problem lies further up the pitch, when the team is conceding for fun the problem lies the other end and when its reading the problem seems to be with fed according to some of you. ive got nothing against marcus but, feds is doing his job..to keep the ball out of the net... and hes doing it well. hes even scored!

I really, really like Federici. His distribution is second to none. But I do wish he'd learn to command his box more. It was a trait we suffered from with Marcus and we're going down the same road with Fed. Taxi for Sal Bibbo?

Just what I was going to say - he really needs to assert himself more and take complete ownership of his box but for some reason he doesn't.

He is still Good enough - It's just a shame his excellent distribution leads to one of our players Booting it up in the air 'Hit and Hope' style.

He made one hell of a save in the second half today - and i agree he needs to control his area more.
