Took them to a points record and goals record while being treated for cancer throughout the season. Serious respect for that.

RIPIP

Atleti won again at the weekend (as did Barca) so need 6 more points to finish ahead of Barca and 7 to finish ahead of Real (assuming all games won) with three to play.

They may get to the final game (at Barca) with the title won which would be impressive

Barca were 2-0 down before Villareal imploded and scored two own goals.

Nobbing from Nagai Stadium, watching Cerezo Osaka. Most of the 30,000 crowd are wearing pink waterproofs. Diego Forlan is playing.

But Forlan used to play in Europe. I'm not taking the plunge on a J-league thread for this.

Cerezo had almost total domination. Forlan lit up the game with some great link-up play but never got a clear sight of goal. His teammates lacked the necessary composure and confidence to turn their obvious superiority into a goal. Then on around 70 mins disaster struck as Omiy Ardija capitalised on poor defending from a corner and took the lead with their first shot on target. The Cerezo faithful responded with a 25-minute rendition of the theme from The Great Escape, and their heroes responded to level with the last kick of the game.

Not a great standard of football, but a really world-class display of pink rainwear:

1 year ago soggy biscuit
soggy biscuit Inter captain Javier Zanetti ruptures his achilles tendon which will likely end his career

He turns 40 before the start of next season and Inter had started talks with him about renewing for another year which apparently he was keen on until this happened. Can be up to 9 months out with something like this.

More than 800 appearances for Inter, captained them for the past 14 years, most capped Argentinian with 145 appearances.

Inter give him a 1 year extension, which is quite nice of them.

Now retiring 19 years after joining Inter

Juve losing to Benfica last night means Serie A now falls behind the Portuguese league in the coefficient points table.

they dont lose a champions league place but do have to play more qualifying games

Barcelona drew at home to Getafe last night meaning Atletico beating Levante today would put them on the verge of winning the league. They just lost.

Looking likely to go down to the final game where Atletico will need to go to Barcelona and avoid defeat. Real Madrid back in it now too.

I am told Barcelona have form for blatently letting a team beat them if it stops Real Madrid winning the league. Barca dont win their penultim8 game and that scenario could potentially be on

They are and deserve to win.

Di Maria showing why he is one of the most inconsistent and frustrating players in Europe and Benzema showed just how lazy he is.

Oh and:
