Steve Coppell has just confirmed on the OS that it was indeed a straight swap.

Whilst personally I am sorry Seol has gone, I think time will show we got by far the better end of the deal.

Well done to Hammond and the management team.

Reading boss Steve Coppell concedes his strained relationship with Seol Ki-Hyeon was instrumental in the South Korean midfielder's move to Fulham.
Seol, 28, moved in a swap deal for Liam Rosenior after expressing discontent at a lack of first-team football.

Coppell told Reading's website: "He felt he should play every game and felt he shouldn't have been brought off in a few other games.

"Our relationship was affected by that and it was obvious he wanted to move."

Coppell added: "I think I would probably say to a certain extent, I lost Seol last season by not playing him regularly.

"It wasn't said in the open but in the chats we had I knew where he was coming from - and where he wanted to go.

"That was Fulham, it was obvious from last season," stated Coppell, who believes the location of Fulham's training ground was also a factor.

Coppell said: "There is a big Korean community by their training ground and he wanted to live there.

"He spent a lot of time there when he was living in Reading so to make the best of the situation we got in dialogue with Fulham and certain deals were mooted."

Reading paid Wolves £1.5m for Seol in July 2006. He had joined the West Midlands club from Belgian side Anderlecht two years previously.

Seol sounds a bit like an arrogant cock based on these comments...

I think one of the most disappointing things about this is the way location appears to have been a prime factor. He's already travelled to the other side of the world and is then worried about the distance between Reading and New Malden!

I doubt there was too much to stop him living in New Malden and commuting to Reading on a daily basis had he thought about it. Even on the low wages that we pay, I'm sure that as a professional footballer he could have scraped together enough to get a mortgage on a suitable property in the New Malden area!

I'm sure that had he been in the team every week then he wouldn't have given two hoots about New Malden.

Not sure that would have been the case because the subject of the Korean community in New Malden kept cropping up even when he was in the team.

Having been a fan of his before, I can now say good riddance to the guy.

If hanging around with his own countrymen was more important than him working hard to get back into the first team then he had a major attitude problem and I'd say good riddance.

Wrong attitude, glad we got rid of him.

I have to concur - bit strange for him to desire Korean company so much - for god sake he was living in Anderlecht and Wolverhampton before - not exactly teeming with Korean life there!

Which might explain his desire now to be in a Korean community?

why have people got a problem with someone wanting to earn a living near a place they feel comfortable?

Because He could have done so with Reading! New Malden to Reading = 50 miles max!

And I believe a number of players and members of the management team live / have lived in London already so it would hardly have been setting a precedent.

I too was unhappy with the booing that went on but I'm pretty sure that wasn't the driving factor behind his move.

IIRC, when he signed he said that one of the reasons that he gave for being happy about signing for RFC was that Reading was in easy reach of New Malden. So clearly the New Malden thing was never an issue at the outset and it only became an 'issue' when he was not getting in the team.
