The whole year inn The thought of entering February with three senior strikers one of which being Shane LOLong fills me with dread.

One or both of Doyle/Hunt are going to get injured at some point, gambling promotion on Shane Long is a seriously shit idea.

If Coppell does not sign a striker in January it will be utter, utter madness to sell Leroy. Free transfer in the summer or not

100% sense - yeah let's get £300,000 for him because that will make a huge difference to us, and having Shane Long as our only other striking option is a great idea.

How anyone can prefer Long over Lita is beyond me - rumoured attitude problems don't count. Which one threw down their shirt and was one of the worst culprits in the most disgraceful effort (not 'performance') I've ever seen from a Reading team? Long. Which one scored 9 in 9 in the Prem season and actually works as hard as anyone on the pitch? Lita, but then again he is a confident, flashy footballer therefore he is a disruptive influence.

I'm not read 8 pages of this, but has the point be made yet that in his 20-odd appearances for Reading this season, Long hasn't got himself in that position (unmarked and through on goal) once? Or am I wrong?

One goal doesn't make Leroy a genuine third-choice striker, but it's a great start and he was scoring at Norwich. He has bags more ability than Long, and I hope this is the start of something bigger for Lita.

The Brain You have to laugh, I bet ya Leroy has a huge scrapbook at home with pictures of himself... he always runs towards the cameras when he scores... not his teammates, nor the crowd. Not the manager, he just wants to get in the paper. Watch the videos, remember when re ran right behind the goal to get to the photographers.. lol ...boy that boy thinks he's good.

He likes making videos ;)

Try "Or half as good etc etc "...that is your pre-conception about what a lot of people think about how good or not so good Lita is.
You also say he was very poor on Friday night...he was on the pitch for all of 17 minutes. What did you expect a double-hatrick?

Ian Royal
AthleticoSpizz Still £1m well spent

Leroy 145 (+73) games

80 goals

Interestingly......Doyle 133 (+15) games

55 goals

Except you're not really comparing properly there. You're presumably including Lita's games for Bristol City where he was playing at a lower level and scoring for fun. Compare them since they both arrived with us it's a slightly different story.
Not trying to make any symbollic statements nor draw comparisons..........however

Royals careers thus far:

Leroy 71 (+24)

32 goals

Kev 133 (+15)

55 goals

even surprised myself there

brendywendy Great to see him back at his best last night. He worked tirelessly when the rest of the team may have been winding down, was seen in every quadrant of the pitch, won a free kick or two,and scored a goal reminiscent of his finest hour at man city.

As it happens I've never been one to doubt his effort, just his ability, but was very pleased to see him score as he is obviously a confidence player but that accolade above is so over the top it's a little cringeworthy.

He worked tireslessly for 15 minutes? Fantastic - what a bloody hero!

Remember that header he missed? No striker at his "best" would have put in such a feeble effort when presented with such an opportunity - almost completely unchallenged (before the corner was taken, during its flight and as he made contact), to put it that wide was Sunday League stuff.

rubbish

all strikers oxf*rd up chances, and litas record suggests he does it less than you think
the ball was a bit behind him, and he tried to slide it in at the far post, but it went wrong, end of.

I was delighetd to see Lita score and on this thread have given him more credit for it than even he himself wanted to take, but in the last 2 years, whilst playing for us, he has shown an amazing knack of oxf*rd up almost every opportunity that comes his way, moreover his reaction when anywhere near the goal betrayed a complete loss of confidence. To me he was almost shot-shy, at times looking like he would rather not have a chance to score.

Anyway, re yesterday, ANY striker, at ANY level of the game would be embarrassed with the header, which, being absolutely unchallenged, without a single obstruction in his way before and during the ball's flight, was pretty pathetic to be fair.

I have long identified Lita's huge weaknesses but, whether you care to recall or not, have also been extremely keen and happy to acknowledge when I think he has done well, or when I do not agree with the criticism levelled at him (espec re his work-rate which I have never had a problem with) but feeble defences such as the one you have offered for yesterday's miss are just daft.

It (as in the miss itself) doesn't deserve a defence of any sort (and I'd be amazed if he offered one himself); however what does deserve acknowledgement is that he then, a minute or so later, when he could have been wallowing in self-pity, went ahead and scored a decent striker's goal.

Fingers crossed he will now start buzzing and, if he has really developed a greater maturity in the last few months, as his words suggest, then he could indeed play a very important part in the next few months.

brendywendy 1stly whoever said he had a 70/30 chance with his goal is just wrong. 2 in 3 one on ones dont go in.

That was me, and you have misinterpreted what I was saying. The chance wasn't 70/30, the chances of Leroy reaching the ball ahead of the keeper were 70/30. I would have thought that was pretty clear. But whilst we're on the subject, if Leroy had missed that 1-on-1 he should have been shot. He reached the ball 10 yards out, the keeper was on the 6 yard line (ish), he had massive angles to aim for either side. It was probably the easiest 1-on-1 he will score in his career.

That is not a preconceived notion.
People on here have said he is good _ I disagreed and gave some substance to that view
A preconceived idea is, for example, thinking Long is lousy and then not being able to see anything good that he does during the game. That seems to be what happens and I was commenting on that - that does not make my view preconceived
And it is quite possible to look poor in 17 minutes, as I tried to describe

Anyway bored with this now
If he plays again I hope Lita scores many times more

Leroy Lita has vowed to stay at Reading until the end of the season and help secure promotion – even if he is left on the sidelines.

The out-of-form striker was shipped out on loan to Championship rivals Norwich City earlier in the season and rediscovered his scoring touch with seven goals in 16 appearances.

His three-month spell at Carrow Road ended last week, but he continued his prolific form with the final goal in Royals’ thumping 4-0 win over Watford on Friday night. Chris Armstrong, Noel Hunt and Kevin Doyle were also all on target.

Lita’s goal was his first at Madejski Stadium since he scored in a 3-2 FA Cup defeat by Manchester United nearly two years ago.

And the £1million former club-record signing says he has matured in recent months and will now concentrate on playing a positive role at Reading.

Lita admits that in the past he may have been inclined to let his disappointment get to him, but he declared that there will be no sulking from him now.

“As long as the team is winning that’s all that counts,” said Lita.

“Maybe in the past I dealt with things in the wrong way and I have learned from that. I spoke to the gaffer and I am more mature now.

“I am learning all the time and as long as the team is winning I will be happy.

“I’m not the same character when I’m not playing. But the manager thinks I’m a big influence in the dressing room and I have to use that in a positive way.

“It’s time for me to help the other lads when I’m not playing. As long as I keep doing that and the team is doing well then everyone is happy.

"I want to be playing, but if the lads are doing well you have to give them credit.”

Lita’s future was in serious doubt due to his lack of chances, but he has vowed to stay at Reading and heap pressure on Coppell’s first-choice strike force of Doyle and Noel Hunt.

“I have come back. I have spoken to the manager and he told me he would love me to stay here and be part of things,” revealed Lita.

“I made it clear that I have no plans to go anywhere and to be fair in the past I have let things get to me.

“I was a bit unsettled in the last couple of years, but I have to get my head right and I am looking forward to helping the team until the end of the season.

"That’s my focus and I won’t worry about anything else.

“I have no other thoughts in my head apart from helping us achieve what we want at the end of the season.

“I never felt not wanted, but I like playing. I made it clear that if I wasn’t playing then it was better to go out on loan, but I love the club and I want to put in my shift and help the team.

“I’m here now and I want to be a part of this season.”

Lita, who is out of contract in the summer, received a fantastic reception from Reading fans on Friday night and he added: “I always looked for Reading’s results when I was at Norwich.

“It was nice when I came on. It was a nice welcome back and you appreciate things like that.

“The fans have always been quality to me so I thank them for that.

“It’s always nice to know I haven’t been forgotten.

“The fans are good to everyone and always look after the players and get behind the players, which is good for the team and long may that continue.”

Reading remain second in the table, but are now just four points behind leaders Wolves, who lost 3-1 at home to Preston on Saturday.

Wolves visit Madejski Stadium two weeks tomorrow.

If this is true it's the best news in the lat 2 years other than Coppell staying.

How many times have I and others gone on about "if he sorts his attitude out" how greathe'll be. My dream might have come true - this will be a MASSIVE boost for us.

Hopefully I'm not too premature in saying

WELCOME BACK HOME LITA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway glad he is back and he scored and hope he pushes on from it.

My only worry about that is if he does well until Feb, then falls out of favour again and we're back to three strikers for the rest of the season...

Look, the blokes come back and scored after coming on as a sub. Great start for Leroy imo. Lets give him a chance and see what he can do. Has something to prove to the Club.
