It's like you've joined in half way through the conversation.

It's not similar, because the subs McD has available are not in the same class as Man U's. He doesn't have the luxury of dragging off one superstar and replacing him with another.

I don't think McD is mastering substitutions right now, but I'm not going to beat him with a sock filled with nothing but fantasy.

The relative class is what's important. Not the comparative class.

Smalling and Jones are relatively close to Raphael in quality. Cummings and Gunter (last season Griffin, Mullins etc) are all similar quality to each other - just as an example for right back. The same applies all over our squad and has done whilst McDermott's been here. And McDermott's time here has not mostly been spent in the Premier League, so we've largely had players of similar quality to the opposition as well.

Raphael is far from a superstar in Man Utds terms, exactly the same as Cummings (and most of our players) in our terms.

You're normally smarter than this. Just be outlandishly offensive at me, it seems its all you've got to offer on this subject.

I hope he's got something good to come back with, I love E-Po's abusive rants, never fail to raise at least a smirk.

You talk in the same way an old man shits himself, sputtering hot air blended with worthless residue, oozing out with little perceivable effort, encouraged only by scatological perverts and the mentally handicapped who think a fart is a day out.

Of course the comparative class is important. If Fergie has two 4 star dudes to pick from, and dude A is shambling out a 0 star performance , he knows dude B can improve f/cktastically on that.

If we have 2 star Gunter falling over his own breath, well – that’s 2 star f/cking players for you. What is the point in bringing on 2 star Cummings?

Plus, Reading are a team who need every one of their substitutions in order to compete; wasting one on swapping like-for-like after 20 minutes isn’t going to be high up the agenda for any manager that doesn’t have 10 million quid players sat on his bench.

Rafael was having an absolute rapemare. The increase in class available from his bench made that substitution far easier than anything we are ever going to deal with in which case your chosen weapon to bash McD with is imaginary. You might as well be pointing two fingers at him and going “Pkew! Pkew!” ya f/ckin’ breakdown.

Wasn't the point that if one of our players was playing complete donkey would McD bring him off....so surely that's one of our "2-star" players playing below that level, therefore bring on another of our "2 star" players would be an improvement....sorry I'm just having a relatively dull day and fancied a torrent of abuse....I'll go now.....

atta boy, you never disappoint in the abuse stakes. You appear to be talking as if we only ever play the Big Four.

In the Championship (you know, the division McDermott managed in for the majority of his time with us) most of our players are 4 star. So if one of them is having a total 0 star game, it would be entirely appropriate to replace him with his 3 star backup.

I draw your attention to our game against Forest in 2003/4 where Pardew did almost EXACTLY what we're describing. Tactical substitution on 27 minutes because we were having a bit of a stinker, replaced Salako with Watson - game changing move and we win 3-0 comfortably. So which ever way you look at it, you're a dribbling lunatic who's just trying to win an argument by shouting incoherant bollox longest and loudest.

kiss kiss etc.

Not enough of an improvement to waste a sub on.

In my opinion.

Which is right.

I know that, you sound like you've come into the argument half way through.

The argument was that McDermott's very reactive with his subs (particularly this season when they're just shit in general) and would never make the sort of change Fergie made in our game against Utd. This was backed up by him never having made the sort of change Fergie did, in his time managing us. Which includes about 100 Championship games.

That was painful reading............

At least Ian, BK and Winchester get the point. Not people I generally tend to agree with...

Tactical substitutions don't seem to be McDermott's forte. His throw only real plan seems to be throw on another attacker/winger and try to ourscore our opponents whilst our defence gets torn to shit.

Nice quotefail. Reading v Peterborough in the Championship was pretty much akin to Man U v Reading in the Premier League. Taylor every time tore our defence to pieces, pulling us everywhere. What did McD do? Throw on another striker?
