Federici has reached his top potential, and isn't going to improve beyond his current level.

Rubbish. He's only 26. Most goalkeepers will still be improving 10 years from now- VDS certainly was, James certainly was, and Hahnemann had only just peaked.

McCarthy will probably improve more, but Fedders will improve as well.

Ian Royal This is the sad truth. We're going to be forced to sell McCarthy because we can't keep all three and we're not going to get good value on Federici, assuming we can even manage to shift him.

Federici may be marginly better right now. But it's fairly obvious McCarthy is going to be well ahead of him within a year or two if he can keep playing. Personaly I'd rather it was with us for absolutely as long as possible.

Exactly, Federici isn't going to attract a big offer, because quite simply, he's not good enough for the big clubs.
Federici has reached his top potential, and isn't going to improve beyond his current level.
McCarthy on the other hand, has vast potential and can improve, which most people recognize. Similarly the Danish one reportedly has the makings of a great goalkeeper.

We're going to end up losing all our better goalkeepers, and being stuck with Adam "Gary Walsh" Federici, simply because he is at the current time the most experienced one, and we'd like to sell him for a big sum, so have to keep playing him to make him more attractive.

I think we are making a big mistake!

Spot on.

Whilst it's true that "You can't keep two outstanding keepers at this level" if we were truly in this position several clubs would be breaking down our door to sign Federici yet, after 2 and a half seasons as our first choice, not to mention his pathetically obvious "Come and get me" pleas in the summer, he's still here :|

Time to put Adam in our January sale and I'll kick things off with my £50 bid (worth every penny if it gets McCarthy back to where he belongs)

It would be hard to name a club with a better record of achieving top dollar on their players than Reading - I think it's reasonable to assume that the club are in control of this particular issue, with full awareness of all the factors, particularly those that have an impact on the longer-term finances.

Federici is having a very good season and is more likely to attract a decent fee now than at the end of last season. McCarthy is having a valuable loan period at Leeds that will do him nothing but good - so, looks to me like it's all going very satisfactorily.

Spot on Woodcote. Federici is such a poor keeper. In the last three games against top Championship teams he has let in ZERO goals. A disgrace. McCarthy would have done so much better and he is worth £47M whereas Federici is not worth a cup of tea. Why can't McD see what you see and do the obvious and drop Fed to the under 18's!

In and out of the side at Rotherham, usually coming off the bench or being taken off, and scoring just the one goal so far.

While we are still on a winning run, let's hope not. Much of recent success is due to destructive capability of Le and Ka. If Howard comes back, should be as a sub whan something different is needed. Cardiff might have been the opportunity.

Meh, he was always signed with a view to catching 'lightning in a bottle' the reason people remember the non-league to league stories like Ferdinand, Wright and Kightly is because they happen so rarely.

I can't see him carving out a career here but here's hoping he can progress to the point of staying pro.

It is hard enough for a proven League 2 striker like ALF to step up - so virtually impossible for a non league player unless they first prove themselves in League 1 and 2 (like Austin).

This was a cheap punt. Hope he finds somewhere in League 2/conference where he can get a contract in the summer. Not his fault after all.

Wow, rubbished already? I'd give him 12 more months personally.

If he was 20 they "yes" but he is 24 already and is not pushing for a start at a League 2 club!

i am extremely surprised a mid 20's taxi driver from Eastleigh with no previous professional club experience is not good enough for League 2 nevermind the Championship. Still 'worth a punt'.

tbf there could be many reasons for that- the club only taking him as cover, and preferring to give game time to own players if they can help it for one

He only played 416 league minutes for 2 goals, a goal every 208 minutes, which is VERY respectable
and has had injury issues. I suspect he is struggling with the rigours of full-time training and may yet
prove to be a decent player. He was very highly thought of in non-league.

He's pretty raw, like Shane was.
