Maguire Anywhere people drink sees a bit of a dust up from time to time. I've seen fisticuffs all over town at some point or other, almost always not related to football.

Did you people never go to school? There were fights all the time at school (and I went to a soft one), it's human nature. Why act so disgusted just because one fella was off his box on a football terrace?

Good god man, calm down on the hyperbole.

Maguire IIRC a dude was in court this week for launching a bottle at the start of the men's 100m final.

These Olympic hooligans sicken me.

Aye, that's the same thing.

You've well and truly put me in my place there, congrats.

As playfully picking up an advert? No, it's worse.

Because when people act like that after being treated well it creates justification for more heavy-handed policing and stewarding. The next time we or anybody else takes a big away following to Crawley they're unlikely to let people stand at the front again if that's what happens as a result.
You're not usually treated as a potential criminal when going to the pub (although there are occasionally sniffer dogs about).

I don't think people are shocked or upset about it, just hugely disappointed, and think that fans who think acting like that is completely reasonable should just oxf*rd off.

It's not as if clapping politely or being pissed and aggressive are the only two ways of being a fan.

Playfully picking up an advert that led to a guy getting injured? You're right, that's much better.

The disgrace of some of our supporters was neatly summarised but what I can only describe as a yob launching a sex toy at an innocent steward.

And I'm sure Mr. Maguire will happily stick it into the open goal, but my point still stands :P

It's not about whether the Olympics were well behaved, whether fights happened at school, in town centres, the 70's or any of that nonsense, it's about expressing disappointment that a few fans spoiled the day for other fans by acting like yobs.

No fan should have to come back from a football game bleeding and everyone deserves to watch 90 minutes of football safely and without fearing that themselves, friends, family (including children) will get hurt or caught up in violence.

You pay to go and watch a football game, you don't pay to dodge fists, advertising boards or whatever else.

Some of them may not have been able to go home after the unprecedented violence seen yesterday.

The summary of a quality and seasoned blogger. You're right, my olmpics line of argument is pretty irrelevant.

General LOLz at some of the over reaction here on the same day that there were genuine incidents of serious disorder involving 100's of lads from United at West Ham, Stoke at Palace, Wolves at Luton with the added bonus of Millwall and Spurs also being at home. Some absolute whoppers on this thread.

Can't be bothered to read all 10 pages of this but I had an enjoyable day out.

Fun game, some goals, decent banter behind the goal on the terrace.

8/10 would see again.

Massive overreaction to the few incidents that took place yesterday. I don't think a single punch was landed and the guy hit by the board was a victim of druken stupidity rather than drunken violence. A pretty low attrition rate for 2,000 away fans, a remarkable percentae of whom had either had a few or were absolutely hammered. I thought chucking the guy out who fell over the boarder was unneccesary as has was doing no harm and trying to get back. Given that OTT stewarding in from of many pissed up fans I was pleasently surprised not to hear any racist chanting.

As has been previously said, 2,000 people, a huge percentage of which have been drinking will lead to incidents in any environment and Reading remain amongst the tamest of away followings with about 1% causing problems. I would also say the suggestion that this will impact on any decision to support safe standing is daft. It wasn't the standing that caused the problems, there would have been similar in a seated end. At home games families would have the choice of seating or standing, a choice they didn't really have yesterday.

Real mountain out of molehill territory.

madreadingfan Been taken well OTT. Blown way out of proportion. I was in the middle of the goal which was great atmosphere btw. But taking the advertising boards off seemed just a bit of fun where some unfortunate person got hit on the head. Shit happens. Yeah there was a fight but that was due to ONE fan starting on other fans which can easily happen on streets or in clubs etc. Hope there wasn't any racist chanting though as that would be disgraceful. We are a family club and this stuff doesn't normally happen.. It happens once and now the majority of the board sound like were gonna turn into Millwall  You should be grateful that this only happens rarely and not to make a big deal out of it when something little happens. Enjoy the game and enjoy the atmosphere. I enjoyed yesterday!

I would of loved yesterday too if I stood where you were!

But what has been described on this thread did happen from banter, through to racist actions and chanting, violence etc.

Stop being so over dramatic.
