The Green Programme And remember when Liam Moore was going to leave? They paid him whatever he wanted to keep him.

Yeahhhhhh but out of all the arguments you could used in favour of the owners, this one is a really bad choice

In agreement though regarding the owners. They’ve put a lot in and we were also in the shit because of the Thais. It’s not an ideal situation but short of a Reading fan billionaire buying us, no situation is going to be.

I’d be cautious about being hasty with desiring their departure. Goes without saying though that they absolutely need better advisors and need to be responsible for implementing that.

Criticism of that Moore situation is very easy now, in hindsight.

But at the time he was our most important player, very in form, and one of the Championship's most sought after defenders. And then one of Bristol City's defenders went for something like £25m. The owners did the right thing at the time to dig their heels in. It would've been difficult to imagine he'd lose form entirely.

This. If we had let him go at the time, people would've been saying "oh same old Reading, can't command a decent fee for their best player", especially when looking at that Bristol City deal.

I do think 25m was massively over the odds for Webster, and I think most of us would have happily have taken 10m for Moore, even 8m. It was a big financial risk to keep him and pay him his current salary

On that note - 8m for Olise, whilst 30 year old Chris Wood goes for 25m. That just isnt fair.

Expected to stay on for the rest of the season but we won’t be offering him a new deal https://twitter.com/benjynurick/status/ ... 51426?s=21

Giving him a PL salary on a 4 year contract to make up for it was absolute insanity, probably worse than the decision to give Pogrenbyak a 4 year contract on insane wages.

Ha that sounds an absolute recipe for disaster. Still it isn't a surprise.

Suppose best get behind him for the rest of the season then. Hope we stay up and sort out our shit from there.

Excellent. Should result in some sack the board chants before long.

Yeah it’s a bit like saying you’re shit and need to go, but want you to carry on being shit for the rest of the season.

I'm sure he can manage that second bit anyway

Unlikely the board will sack themselves. Might interesting to know what happened to Dai's other two failed clubs once they went into freefall. Did he just lose interest and walk away? Like he has for Reading no attachment other than a financial one.

I think they’re hoping Pauno can put together a string of results that is enough to keep us up- I think that’s one of the things he’s good at. Just a shame it takes little time to work his tactics out and we become shit again very quickly.

So ffp has presumably “tied” the club down on this too?

More to the point, now this news appears to be “out there”, how’s it going to affect things, can’t be good to have the “walking dead” managing on top of so many players out of contract in the summer.

All the same, credit should be given to VP if he does manage to keep the club up this season given all the mitigating circumstances.

Hope this has been made clear to Paunovic so at the very least he’ll attempt to salvage a career for himself out of Reading.

Relegation on his record will surely be curtains for his future prospects.

More capitulations like Fulham and there won't be much choice but to sack him regardless

I’ve defended him fiercely here but I honestly now think I was wrong and that’s a very dangerous strategy as my fear is he’s lost the dressing room.

I wonder if JM has given them some advice.

I can only hope the plan is to get new fitness coaches. New defence coaches, Ten more physios. New DOf. Something to support him! Perhaps this wil, be another Mad Dog moment that saved Pardew.

So basically, if true, board vote of confidence, which basically means nothing and another heavy defeat and is sacked.

FFP dont come into play at all. His salary is budgeted for the year and there are alternatives within club i.e. Gilkes, Morrisson, Leigertwood and even Brian Mcdermott would do it for free or post retainer.
