It's called business - Let prospective buyers know you're willing to sell in order to maximise interest and maximise profit. How long should he wait? Week before the new season?

The mentality of some people on this board never fails to baffle me.

Yep - if he's going, I'd rather we sorted it now and knew how much we were prepared to spend on a replacement and have a good few weeks to find one, rather than snap someone up quickly because the new season is fast approaching.

I would love to see Shane here next season but if he is going, as seems inevitable, then the sooner that happens the better. It was great to have Gylfi for a few matches at the start of the season, in which he scored, but losing him after the season started probably damaged us more than if he had gone in June when we could have prepared better for his loss to the team.

This will continue to be the way that the club operate, we are habitual sellers of our top players, it was clear to see on monday at Wembley, when Swansea deservedly won the play-off final, where we might have been now if Reading, like Swansea, had backed and not sacked, BR when he was here for the very short time.

This is no slight on the magnificent BMc, and the quite amamzing job he has done here with his limited rescources, but in reality we are, under the present regime, better where we are, and reading between the lines, SJM I believe has "bigged up" the championship saying its more exciting than the prem, and for a club with limited finance and a reluctance to spend akin to the rest of the premiershiup clubs, his desire to stay in the championship is probably well founded, and where we should stay.

We're not habitual sellers of our top players. We're habitually unable to stop our top players from leaving for more money or to play at a higher level - although we do better than most at keeping them for longer.

That's a slightly different but more accurate way of presenting it - but also the norm for clubs like us.

Muskrat I don't know why people are getting so Shirley Temple over the fact that the Chairman has said Long will be sold.

it's not that, it's the fact that he won't be replaced - SJM will just spend £200,000 on some 16 year old kid who won't make it for another 5 years, who's going to score the goals in the short run? all this club cares about is buying and selling players for a profit. they realised they can make huge profits after the likes of Doyle and Sigurdsson so will just rinse and repeat and pocket the profits - stuff the teams performance.

Just in case you don't remember, we've just finished 5th and been to a cup final.

He has been trying to for a while but nobody wants to buy us.

howser if Reading, like Swansea, had backed and not sacked, BR when he was here for the very short time.

Had we backed BR it is unlikely we would have been at wembley. More likely we would have been at Old Trafford over the weekend.

Listening to Brendan, I think even he accepts that now.

Plus we would have lost quite a few players very quickly. You can't suddenly impose a complete change of style where it's not appropriate and expect quick results.

Same is going to happen to the best players at this level, Norwich were going to lose Holt if they did not go up, and teams as ours will be less attractive for loanees as each season goes by.

Swansea have gone up and players may still leave.

Sir Dodger Royal Here's a quote from our TW** of a Chairman. The money grabbing Madman.

Madejski said: “This last game, the last throw of the dice, is a defining moment. Obviously there will be people within the club who are very talented and have a desire to move on.

“We just have to live with what we have – and be pragmatic, sensible, grown up and go forward. We’ll be able to bring in new, raw talent to replace old, good talent.”

Read more: http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/250 ... z1O2tTiiUC

Basically what he defines as RAW is CHEAP. That is why we are still in the Championship but then he has grabbed the season ticket money so it is no surprise. It really is time that he ****** off.

Real Facts from the Main Mannnnnnnnn

im pretty happy with the policy of buying raw and cheap, and selling once proven and expensive.

Nail on head perfectly.

The fact that players would want to leave our Club seems ridiculous to some of the more blinkered posters here unfortunately.

I've never had a real go at the chairman on here and fully appreciate that players may move on at some point during the summer but I think it is outrageous that less than 24 hours after wembley he is attempting to start a bidding war in the local and national media and move players on.

If the club is still loosing that much money even after the cup run and playoffs which would have not been budgeted for at the start of the season it is time for for the people looking after the money side of things to go now.

If he is trying to start a bidding war (which I don't think he is) then he's out of touch. With a release clause in SL's contract then there will be no bidding war.

As stated so many times, the chairman doesn't run the club on a day-to-day basis - he employs people to do that for him - and what he says in public when he's off the lead often bears no great resemblance to the reality of what goes on in the club.

Unlike many others on here I haven't added you to my ignore list, but can I just say - P-M-S-L...
To be fair, Pardew did pay over the odds for Shaun Goater and I think he was on a free transfer.

The Doctor he's hardly playing hard to get is he? shut up and let the bids come in. stop sounding so desperate to sell!!
Agreed, He should be giving "we don't need to sell, but if the transfer of Andy Carroll to Liverpool has shown, every player has a price"

If that's his idea of how to best maximise profit then perhaps it's little wonder that he doesn't appear anywhere near as rich as he used to!

Far better to argue that we don't need to sell and that any offer would have to be pretty spectacular to even make us consider, let alone accept, it.

How many football clubs have you successfully run? How many millions do you have to your name?

Oh... I'll go with Madejski then thanks. I seem to recall you're one of the "where's the money gone?" conspiracy weirdos anyway.
